Eastern Oregon University Athletics

Earned three NAIA District 2 Cross Country Championships and six district track honors. He was named an All-American in Cross Country twice, and an All-American in track once. He was also selected as an Academic All-American two times. He placed second at the 1981 NAIA National Track Meet in the 10k, and finished second the next fall at the National Cross Country Meet. Stearns still holds the school record in the 5,000 and 10,000. Stearns remains a dedicated runner and has won numerous road races throughout the state. He also qualified for and competed in the 1992 Olympic Marathon Trials. Stearns is the Head Cross Country and Assistant Track Coach at Mt.View High School.
