Mounties Drop Day One Against Thunderbirds

LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (1-25) hosted their first game on Optimist Field against Cascade Conference opponents, the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds (19-15). UBC had five home runs in game one that led them to victory, 19-4. The Thunderbirds continued their streak at the plate and grabbed 17 more hits to take game two 16-4. EOU returns tomorrow for another doubleheader against UBC at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. back at Optimist Field in La Grande.

GAME 1

EOU went down early but immediately answered back when Youhyeon Choi smacked a double and then scored off a Thunderbird error. Mario Landeros then followed it up by launching a ball over the fence for his second home run of the year. Luck would not fall Eastern's way as UBC continued to chip away at their score throughout the game. They grabbed five home runs to take game one 19-4 over the Mounties.

GAME 2 

The Thunderbirds continued their run at the plate tallying 17 hits to take game two, 16-4. Danny Burns hit the first home run of his EOU career to put the Mounties on the board. That helped carry momentum into the next inning as Rogelio Gonzales put up a double that brought in Joey Freitas, EOU then put up two more RBIs to add two more runs on the board. Elliott Marks, Rogelio Gonzales, and Mario Landeros all had a double in game two.
