EOU Takes On No. 6 Corban and Bushnell to Begin Second Half of CCC Play

LA GRANDE, Ore. - 13th-ranked Mountaineers Volleyball is back on the road this weekend for a pair of pivotal matches against two of the top teams in the conference. Eastern Oregon will look to stay in contention with second half action of CCC play underway.

No. 6 Corban Warriors (17-0, 11-0 CCC)
Bushnell Beacons (15-4, 9-2 CCC)

Saturday, Oct. 9, 5 p.m. - vs. Bushnell

First Serve 
• The Mountaineers begin the second half of conference play with a 15-4 overall record and are 10-1 in the CCC, which has them sitting second ahead of Bushnell and behind Corban.
• Eastern Oregon began the month of October with a pair of wins at home and will now play on the road for the next four.
• Following this weekend's matches, EOU will play two out of state foes in Lewis-Clark State College and Walla University.
• Going into the weekend, the Mountaineers are currently on a nine-game winning streak.

• Fans can catch all the Mountaineers' home volleyball matches on the Mountie Sports Network at www.eousports.com/watch. Trevor Curl will be on the call this season for play-by-play commentary. Pregame for all home matches begins 15 minutes prior to first serve.
• All home games will be Pay-Per-View and can be purchased for $7.95 per game. Fans can also purchase an Eastern Oregon All-Access pass to watch all 2021-22 EOU home sporting events for $100.

• The Mountaineers are currently on a nine-game winning streak.
• The last team to defeat EOU was Corban back on Sept. 4 inside Quinn Coliseum.
• This weekend's matches for the Mounties are again two of the top-three teams in the CCC
• Eastern will put a 16-game regular season road winning streak on the line this weekend.

Last Timeout

• The Mountaineers extended their brown streak to nine with two home victories over Evergreen State and Northwest, respectively.
• Against the Geoducks, EOU went five sets winning 32 and was led by Breanna Shaffer who had a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs.
• Against the Eagles, Eastern hit .320 as a team and had four players eclipse double figure kills led by Breanna Shaffer and Cambree Scott with 15 and 13, respectively.

Previously Against Corban/Bushnell
• Earlier this season, EOU went 1-1 against this weekend's opponents. The Mountaineers defeated Bushnell at home, 3-1, before falling to Corban in straight sets, 3-0.
• Against the Beacons, EOU was led by Jet Taylor who had 11 kills along with Breanna Shaffer with 10.
• Against the Warriors, Cambree Scott paced the offense with seven kills and had four blocks. Breanna Shaffer also added seven kills in the loss.
• Since 2009, EOU is 25-2 against Bushnell and has won each of the last 19 matches, with 15 of those wins being in sweeping fashion. Since 2006, the Mountaineers are 27-7 against the Warriors.

CCC Player of the Week
• The Mountaineers had one player earn CCC Player of the Week honors in Alexis McMurtrey as she was tabbed the Setter of the Week.
• She dished out 63 assists and averaged 7.00 per set. She also added 21 digs on the weekend for an average of 2.33 per set. She finished the weekend with six service aces as well.

EOU in the Polls
• EOU checks in at No. 13 in the fourth edition of the NAIA women's volleyball coaches' top-25 poll.
• In the CCC preseason poll, Eastern was picked to win the conference ahead of Corban and Southern Oregon. The Mountaineers tallied eight first place votes and totaled 140 points.
• The next set of NAIA top-25 rankings will be released next Wednesday, Oct. 13

Three's Company
• Of the Mountaineers' 19 matches so far this season, 12 have ended in straight sets.
• EOU has fared well in three-set matches with a 10-2 record, including a current five-game win streak.
• The only 3-0 losses for EOU have come against ranked opponents in Bellevue (Neb.) and Corban.
• In four-set matches this year, EOU is a perfect 4-0 this season.

Home Sweet Home
• Since 2011, EOU has fared well at home in the past decade with a 104-11 record.
• In that span, the Mountaineers have never lost more than two games at home.
• Under the direction of Kaki McLean Morehead, EOU is 136-21 at home.
• The Mountaineers have posted two undefeated seasons at home under Morehead in 2013 and 2016.

• Dating back to the 2019 regular season, EOU has won each of its last 16 matches.

• Alexis McMurtrey is just two assists away from 500 for the season.
• Breanna Shaffer needs just 28 more digs to reach 350 for her career.
• Hailey Arritola is four service aces away from 30 in her young career.
• Cambree Scott needs just 37 more kills to reach 800 for her career.

Scouting the Competition
No. 6 Corban Warriors

• The Warriors are the only undefeated team left in the CCC with a 17-0 overall record and an 11-0 mark against conference foes. They currently rank sixth in the latest NAIA top-25 rankings.
• Offensively, Corban is hitting .275 on the year and averages 13.1 kills per set. They have 682 assists on the year and average 12.0 per set and have racked up 130 service aces.
• Defensively, the Warriors hold opponents to under a .100 attack clip of .076 and just 8.1 kills per set. They tally 15.2 digs per set and 2.2 blocks per set.
• Rylee Troutman leads the offense with 205 kills and averages 3.66 per set on a .258 hitting percentage. She is also the team leader in service aces with 30.
• Second in kills is Avari Ridgway with 174. She hits .302 and averages 3.11 kills per set. She also has 15 service aces on the year.
• Also in triple figure kills is Ally Tow with 118. She averages 2.11 per set and has an attack clip of .210.
• Jaydn Mullen facilitates the offense with a team best 351 assists and averages 6.38 per set. She is second in service aces as well with 28.
• Ciarra Judson is second in assists with 221. She dishes out 4.02 per set and is third in service aces with 21. 
• Allyson Reid leads the front row on defense with 71.0 total blocks. She averages 1.29 per set and has had eight solo blocks.
• Cora Furman and Ridgway are tied for second in block switch 38.0 apiece. Furman averages 0.73 blocks per set, while Ridgway is at 0.68.
• Keatani Ontai is the back row leader in digs with 231 on the year. She averages 4.05 digs per set and has a reception percentage of .944. 

Bushnell Beacons
• The Beacons enter the weekend with a 13-2 overall record and are 9-2 against CCC opponents this season. They are currently on a six-game winning streak.
• Offensively, Bushnell is hitting .205 on the year and averages 12.2 kills per set. They average 11.5 assists per set and have 99 service aces on this season.
• Defensively, the Beacons are holding opponents to a .118 hitting percentage and 9.7 kills per set. They average 13.3 digs per set and 2.2 blocks per set.
• Shay Coons is pacing the offense so far with 138 kills and averages 3.14 per set. She is hitting .212 on the year as well. 
• Halle Neumann and Jessica Northcutt are tied for second in kills with 95 each. Neumann is averaging 2.11 per set, while Northcutt is slightly ahead at 2.64.
• Callie Wilkins is the team leader in service aces with 18, followed by Camille Guerrero with 17.
• Makenna Northern is the floor general with 479 assists on the year. She averages just under 10.0 per set at 9.98. She also has six service aces this year.
• Matelynn Ladd is the front row defensive leader with 46.0 total blocks. She averages 0.90 per set and has five solo blocks this year.
• Second in blocks is Payton Jones with 37.0 total and she averages 0.88 per set.
• Wilkins is the back row leader in digs with 214 this year. She averages 4.37 digs per set and has a .954 reception percentage.

• The Mountaineers will remain on the road for two more matches. Eastern takes on LC State Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. PT followed by Walla Walla on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. PT.
