Kaki McLean Morehead enters her 18th season as Head Volleyball Coach at EOU in 2024. She is the all-time winningest coach with a career record of 406-124 and the best winning percentage of .771.
Under the direction of Morehead, EOU has made ten-straight CCC Tournament appearances. During Morehead's 17-year tenure, EOU has had 25 All-American award winners and 40 First-Team All-Conference honorees. The Mountaineers have won eight Cascade Collegiate Conference Titles under Morehead and have made the NAIA National Tournament each of the last ten seasons (2014-2023).
2023
Named CCC Coach of the Year once again, Morehead guided the team to a program-best 34-2 record while repeating as Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season and tournament champions. EOU held a No. 1 national ranking for a total of four weeks, putting together a 23-game winning streak before eventually falling to Indiana Wesleyan in the NAIA Semifinals. Among the talented roster, five different Mounties received CCC All-Conference honors, with Alexis McMurtrey named Setter of the Year and Myle Mills honored as Freshman of the Year. The duo of Sade Williams and Kiera Vaughn shined at the NAIA National Tournament, with Williams receiving All-American distinction and Vaughn named to the All-Tournament team.
2022
2022 was a historic one for Mountaineer volleyball. Morehead lead the Mounties to arguably their best season in program history compiling a 34-3 record on the way to the team's first ever NAIA Semifinal appearance. Along the way, Eastern earned the No. 1 ranking as the top team in the country holding the spot through the final four polls of the season. The No. 1 ranking marked the first ever for any Mountaineer team and the first ever for any Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball team. Morehead lead the Mounties to their seventh CCC Regular Season Title under her direction and their second CCC Tournament Championship victory. The team earned two All-American honors, two NAIA All-Tournament honors at the National Tournament, three First Team All-CCC honors, one Second Team honor, and one Honorable Mention honor.
2021
In 2021, a sense of normalcy returned as the Mountaineers and the rest of the NAIA returned back to playing in the fall season. Morehead's squad made the most of a full regular season return going 26-9 with a 19-3 mark in CCC play. Her squad finished second in the regular season standings and were the CCC Tournament Runner-Up. Eastern made a return trip to the NAIA National Championships and once again hosted a first round match for the second consecutive year. The team advanced to the final site before bowing out in pool play. EOU had two All-Americans and five All-CCC selections. As a team the Mounties finished the campaign ranked No. 16 in the NAIA
2020
The 2020 campaign was a unique one for Morehead and the Mountaineers as they did not start the regular season until after the New Year in 2021. Regardless, EOU finished the regular season undefeated at 15-0 overall and 14-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play en route to EOU’s sixth Regular Season Title in the last seven years. In the NAIA National Championships, EOU posted a 3-1 record winning in the opening round and going undefeated in pool play before bowing out in the National Quarterfinals. Under Morehead, EOU had three All-Americans, five First Team All-CCC honors, and four AVCA All-Region honors. Morehead was named CCC Coach of the Year as well as the AVCA Northwest Region Co-Coach of the Year. For the Mountaineers, their undefeated regular season was the first in program history as they finished the year ranked No. 7 in the NAIA.
2019
Led by Morehead in 2019, the Mountaineers won at least a share of the CCC Regular Season Championship for the second year in a row and fifth time in six seasons. EOU had the second most wins in a season in program history with 31 and the second fewest losses with 5. The Mounties made their sixth appearance in as many years at the national tournament, winning two matches in pool play before falling in the round of 16. EOU had two All-Americans in 2019. They finished the season ranked No. 13 and were as high as No. 3. The Mounties had five All-CCC selections including four first teamers and Libero of the Year.
2018
Morehead and the Mountaineers won their fourth CCC Regular Season Championship in five years in 2018, tying with Southern Oregon with a 17-3 conference record. EOU went to its 5th-straight NAIA Championships, winning two matches in pool play to advance to the top-16 elimination rounds. The Mountaineers completed the year 25-9 and ranked No. 11 in the final NAIA rankings. EOU had two NAIA All-Americans and three All-CCC selections as well as the co-Libero of the Year in 2018.
2017
In 2017, the Mountaineers did not win the CCC title for the first time since 2013, but still reached the national tournament for a fifth-straight year. Morehead and EOU took third place in the CCC with a 15-5 record, finishing 24-11 overall. EOU advanced out of pool play with two wins, eventually falling to No. 1-ranked Lindsay Wilson in the top-16. Morehead coached Two All-Americans and two All-CCC selections that year. The Mountaineers ended the year ranked No. 12.
2016
EOU finished the 2016 season 32-3 overall and 19-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play. In addition to collecting the most wins and suffering the fewest losses in program history, EOU went 12-0 at home to improve to 65-4 at Quinn Coliseum since 2011. In the Tachikara-NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Postseason Poll, the Mountaineers ranked sixth, which tied for their highest spot in school history at the time.
2015
During the 2015 campaign, Morehead fleeted the squad to pool play of the NAIA National Championship for the second-consecutive year. The Mounties won their first outright CCC title. Morehead earned both CCC and AVCA Northwest Regional Coach of the Year honors.
2014
Morehead lead the Mounties to a shared CCC Title in 2014 She coached three All-American honor earning players and three All-CCC selection that year. For the second time in her career at that point, Morehead was named the CCC Coach of the Year.
2013
On October 25, 2013, Morehead became the all-time winningest coach at EOU with a victory over Concordia (Ore.). Morehead led the Mountaineers to a second-place finish in the CCC and the school's best season in program history (at the time) with an overall record of 25-6 and 15-3 in the CCC.
2012
During the 2012 season, Morehead reached the 100-career-win milestone with a victory over Southern Oregon, and she saw three players earn first-team all-conference honors.
2011
Morehead won her first CCC Coach of the Year award in 2011 leading the Mounties to a 17-11 record and 15-3 record in conference play. Morehead had three players earn All-CCC honors.
One year after graduating from EOU, Morehead became the Mountaineers' assistant volleyball coach in 2005. She took over as head coach in 2006 serving as in the position until 2009 before stepping away from the program for a year.
Prior to her coaching career, Morehead was a three-year standout on the hardwood for the EOU volleyball team. In addition to being a three-time first-team all-league honoree, Morehead was named to the Honorable Mention All-NAIA Region I squad.
In 236-career matches, Morehead recorded 812 kills, hitting .210 in those contests. She also tallied 802 digs, 61 service aces and 79 total blocks.
The Paulina, Ore., native graduated from Crook County High School in 2001, where she earned first-team all-state honors for volleyball during her senior season.
