Mountaineers Take on Rival Coyotes to Start Final Homestand

LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 13 Mountaineers Volleyball is back in action already following a 2-0 weekend. Eastern Oregon gets its final five-game homestand started Tuesday night against a longtime rival.

First Serve
• The Mountaineers (18-5, 13-2 CCC) enter the mid-week tilt riding a three-game win streak.
• Eastern Oregon sits firmly at second place in the conference standings.
• Tuesday's match against C of I will start a five-game homestand for the Mountaineers.
• Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear camouflage clothes as part of Camo Night for the Mountaineers match.

How to Watch/Follow
• Fans can catch all the Mountaineers' home volleyball matches on the Mountie Sports Network at www.eousports.com/watch. Trevor Curl will be on the call this season for play-by-play commentary. Pregame for all home matches begins 15 minutes prior to first serve.
• All home games will be Pay-Per-View and can be purchased for $7.95 per game. Fans can also purchase an Eastern Oregon All-Access pass to watch all 2021-22 EOU home sporting events for $100.

EOU Athletics Spectator Policy
• Spectators will be allowed at EOU sporting events, but masks will be required to be worn correctly (over mouth AND nose) at ALL indoor and outdoor events per state and local policy. This is subject to change at any time.
• Failure to comply with conference or institutional attendance policies will result in removal from venue and any further EOU contests.
• General Admission is allowed for both indoor and outdoor events and is on a first come, first serve basis. To see ticket prices for individual EOU sporting events and to purchase tickets, click here.
• Concessions will be available for outdoor EOU athletic events, but not indoor EOU athletic events.
• Students, faculty, and staff wishing to attend indoor EOU Athletic Events can do so for FREE by showcasing their EOU ID card.

Story Lines
• The Mountaineers enter the Tuesday tilt riding a three-game overall win streak.
• Eastern is also on a four-game home win streak and is 5-1 in Quinn Coliseum this year.
• The Mountaineers have won each of their last seven matches against C of I, including three straight at home.
• In four-set matches this season, EOU is a perfect 6-0 on the year.

Quick Hits
Last Time Out

• EOU went 2-0 on the weekend picking up wins at LC State, 3-1, and Walla Walla, 3-0.
• Against the Warriors, the Mounties only hit .167 but had a 9-6 edge in blocks for the win. Breanna Shaffer led the way with 12 kills, while Cambree Scott added six blocks.
• At Walla Walla, EOU secured its 13 sweep of the season in a 3-0 thrashing of the Wolves. Jet Taylor hit .357 and had nine kills in the win. Sade Williams added six kills and hit .857.

Previously Against College of Idaho
• Earlier this season, the Mountaineers made quick work of the Yotes in Caldwell winning in straight sets. EOU hit .314 in the win and limited C of I to just a .056 attack clip.
• Eastern currently is on a seven-game winning streak against the Yotes. Since 2009, EOU is 11-6 at home against C of I and has won each of the last three match-ups.
• Since 2009, the Mounties are 17-15 overall against the Yotes. The last time the Yotes defeated the Mountaineers was back in 2018.

EOU in the Polls
• EOU checks in at No. 13 in the fourth edition of the NAIA women's volleyball coaches' top-25 poll.
• In the CCC preseason poll, Eastern was picked to win the conference ahead of Corban and Southern Oregon. The Mountaineers tallied eight first place votes and totaled 140 points.
• The next set of NAIA top-25 rankings will be released next Wednesday, Oct. 27

Three's Company
• Of the Mountaineers' 23 matches so far this season, 13 have ended in straight sets.
• EOU has fared well in three-set matches with a 11-2 record.
• The only 3-0 losses for EOU have come against ranked opponents in Bellevue (Neb.) and Corban.
• In four-set matches this year, EOU is a perfect 6-0 this season.

Home Sweet Home
• Since 2011, EOU has fared well at home in the past decade with a 104-11 record.
• In that span, the Mountaineers have never lost more than two games at home.
• Under the direction of Kaki McLean Morehead, EOU is 136-21 at home.
• The Mountaineers have posted two undefeated seasons at home under Morehead in 2013 and 2016.

Road Warriors
• Dating back to the 2019 regular season, EOU has won 19 of its last 20 matches.

• Cambree Scott needs just 27 more blocks to reach 500 for her career. She is three career kills away from 800.
• Hailey Arritola is 18 service aces away from 50 for her career.
• Alexis McMurtrey is 28 assists away from 800 for her career.
• Sade Williams needs just 20 more kills to reach 450 for her career.

Scouting the Competition
College of Idaho Coyotes

• The Yotes enter the midweek showdown with a 10-13 overall record and are 7-8 in CCC play. They are currently on a two-game win streak.
• Offensively, C of I is hitting .187 on the year and averages 12.0 kills per set. The team is dishing out 11.4 assists per set as well and has 122 service aces this season.
• Defensively, opponents are hitting .186 against the Yotes and average 11.7 kills per set. C of I tallies 14.6 digs per set and averages 2.0 blocks per set.
• Emly Vandenberg is the team leader in kills with 181. She hits .169 and is averaging 2.32 kills per set. She also has 15 service aces this season.
• Leyah de Souza is the second leading hitter at 153 kills and averages 2.07 per set.
• Also over the 100 kills mark are Danielle Neuman and Jade Warren at 146 and 11, respectively. Neuman averages 2.09 kills per set, while Warren is hitting .252 on the year.
• Sydnee Steel is leader in service aces with 24 on the year. She is second in assists with 306 and averages 3.92 per set.
• Leading the way in assists is Sidney Frith with 467. She averages just under 60 per set at 5.99 and she has tallied 12 service aces this season.
• Warren is the defensive leader up front with 71.0 total blocks this season. She averages 1.08 per set and has had 19 solo blocks this season.
• Second in blocks is Neuman with 55. She is averaging .059 per set.
• Isabelle Combs has the most digs with 295. She averages 4.34 per set. 

Up Next
• Eastern Oregon continues its homestand with a pair of matches this weekend inside Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers will face Warner Pacific on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m., followed by Multnomah on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
