LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Athletics is pleased to welcome
Danny Amezquita to its athletic communications team as Co-Sports Information Director. Amezquita will serve alongside current Co-Director,
Hope Maes.
"Danny brings a strong work ethic, creativity, and a passion for collegiate athletics. This role requires collaboration, adaptability, and a commitment to serving our student-athletes and programs" said Athletic Director
Anji Weissenfluh.
"We are excited for Danny to join Hope Maes in leading our communications efforts and look forward to the impact they will make together for Mountie Nation."
Amezquita joins Mountaineer Athletics from Dakota Wesleyan University, where he has served as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant. He initially joined DWU as a graduate assistant for the women's basketball program while also working as the assistant Sports Information Director. Following the departure of the department's director, Amezquita stepped into the role of Interim Sports Information Director. After a new director was hired, he remained with the department as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant while completing his graduate degree.
During his time at DWU, Amezquita gained extensive experience across multiple areas of athletic communications. His responsibilities included managing social media platforms—creating engaging content and graphics to increase visibility and interaction—overseeing live statistics, writing and distributing game recaps and feature stories, coordinating gameday promotional materials, and maintaining the athletics website.
In addition to his work in sports information, Amezquita is the founder and director of the NAIA Volley Report. In under a year, the platform has generated more than 2.3 million views, 45,000 engagements, and nearly 4,000 followers through comprehensive coverage of men's and women's NAIA volleyball. His content spans written, graphic, and social media formats, highlighting matches, rankings, players of the week, and emerging programs.
"I am thrilled to welcome him to our team and to have a partner in telling the story of Eastern Oregon Athletics" said Maes.
"His ability to create engaging, meaningful content will be a tremendous asset as we continue to elevate our programs and shine a spotlight on our outstanding student-athletes. I'm excited for what we'll accomplish together and the energy he brings to this role."
Amezquita also brings a diverse background of experience, including photography at the NAIA Men's Volleyball National Championship and NAIA Men's Basketball Opening Rounds, as well as work in facility management, athletic operations, teaching, and coaching. He currently serves as a Transport Operator in the United States Army National Guard. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management from Grand View University in 2024 and is set to receive his Master of Education with an emphasis in Athletic and Activities Administration from Dakota Wesleyan University in May.
Amezquita's arrival marks another step forward for Mountaineer Athletics as it continues to build momentum and enhance its presence across all platforms.
