This Week in Mountaineer Athletics: August 17th - 23rd

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Eastern Oregon University Athletics enters the second week of the fall sports season, with Volleyball traveling to Fullerton, California, to compete in the Summer Slam hosted by Hope International University, while Women's Soccer prepares to host its second scrimmage of the season.

Friday, August 21st
Volleyball opens the Summer Slam at 11 a.m. against Life Pacific before facing La Sierra University at 5 p.m. The matchups with Life Pacific and La Sierra will mark the first meeting between the programs.

Saturday, August 22nd
Women's Soccer returns home for its second scrimmage of the season, hosting Spokane Colleges at 11 a.m. at Community Stadium.

In California, Volleyball continues Day 2 of the Summer Slam with an 11 a.m. matchup against host Hope International University before closing out the weekend against No. 1-ranked Northwestern College (Iowa).

Eastern Oregon holds a 1-1 all-time record against Hope International. The Mounties first faced the Royals in 2017, falling in four sets, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 23-25. EOU earned its first win over HIU in 2019, sweeping the Royals, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23.

The Mounties also enter Saturday's matchup with No.1 ranked Northwestern with a 1-1 record against the Eagles. EOU most recently defeated Northwestern at last season's CSM Labor Day Classic, sweeping the Eagles, 25-22, 25-15, 25-22. The programs previously met during pool play at the 2021 NAIA National Tournament, where Northwestern claimed a five-set victory, 22-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 8-15.

With a full weekend of competition ahead, Eastern Oregon looks to build momentum as the fall sports season continues into its second week.
