LA GRANDE, Ore. — Mountie Nation has another action-packed weekend ahead, with a full slate of home and road competition, conference matchups, special theme nights, and plenty of opportunities to support Eastern Oregon Athletics. From a pair of highly anticipated soccer doubleheaders and No. 1 Volleyball at home to football opening Frontier Conference play on the road, here's what's ahead for the Mounties this weekend.
Friday, October 9
Women's Soccer will open the weekend at home with a 4 p.m. PT matchup against Rocky Mountain College at Community Stadium. The Mountaineers enter the contest tied atop the CCC standings with an 8-2-1 overall record and a 4-1 mark in conference play, coming off a dramatic 2-1 upset over No. 4 College of Idaho. Rocky Mountain enters at 5-0-4 overall and 3-0-2 in the CCC after earning 1-0 victories over Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon. Since 2000, EOU holds a 10-11 record against the Battlin' Bears, with the Mounties' last victory coming in 2023. EOU fell 5-1 to Rocky Mountain last season.
Men's Soccer will follow at approximately 6:30 p.m. PT against the Battlin' Bears. The Mountaineers are coming off a 0-0 draw with Walla Walla in a postponed match before earning a dramatic 2-1 victory over College of Idaho on a goal in the final seconds. EOU enters at 2-1-5 overall and 2-0-3 in CCC play. No. 22 Rocky Mountain is 6-0-3 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play after defeating Oregon Tech, 3-1, and No. 16 Southern Oregon, 1-0. The Mounties are 2-10-1 all-time against RMC, including a 1-1 draw last season. EOU defeated the Battlin' Bears in the two seasons prior.
Friday is also Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, with EOU Athletics inviting faculty and staff to enjoy an evening of food, refreshments, and Mountie competition. The evening will also recognize Hispanic Heritage Day, celebrating the history, culture, traditions, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities.
No. 1 Volleyball will close out Friday's home action when the Mounties welcome Northwest University to Quinn Coliseum at 6 p.m. PT. EOU enters riding a program-record 21-game winning streak after defeating Warner Pacific last Saturday, improving to 21-0 overall and 10-0 in CCC play. The Mounties also secured a statement 3-1 victory over No. 4 College of Idaho to take sole possession of first place in the conference. Northwest enters at 6-13 overall and 2-8 in the CCC after losses to No. 17 Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. EOU holds a 22-3 record against the Eagles since 2013, with its last loss coming in 2023. The Mounties defeated Northwest, 3-0, earlier this season.
It's Jersey Night at Quinn Coliseum, so fans are encouraged to wear their favorite team jersey and fill the stands. Faculty and staff are also invited to continue the evening of appreciation with food, drinks, and volleyball action.
Saturday, October 10
Volleyball will return to Quinn Coliseum Saturday at 4 p.m. PT to host The Evergreen State College. The Geoducks enter at 2-12 overall and 1-9 in conference play after losses to Oregon Tech and No. 17 Southern Oregon. EOU is a perfect 33-0 against Evergreen since the early 2000s and defeated the Geoducks, 3-0, in Olympia earlier this season.
Saturday is Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of those who have fought, survived, or lost their battle with cancer.
Women's Soccer will return to Community Stadium at 4 p.m. PT to take on (RV) Carroll College. The Saints enter at 2-2-6 overall and 1-0-4 in CCC play after earning 1-1 draws with Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech. The Mountaineers defeated Carroll, 3-1, in Montana last season.
Men's Soccer will follow at approximately 6:30 p.m. PT against the Saints. Carroll enters at 4-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play after a 1-2 loss to No. 16 Southern Oregon and a 4-1 victory over Oregon Tech. EOU defeated the Saints, 3-2, in Montana last season.
Saturday's soccer doubleheader will also feature Mental Health Awareness Night. Fans are encouraged to wear green in support of mental health awareness and to help spread an important message throughout the Mountie community: it's okay to not be okay, check in on the people around you, and be honest about how you're feeling.
Football will hit the road Saturday for its Frontier Conference opener, traveling to face Arizona Christian University at 7 p.m. PT. The Mountaineers went 3-1 during the preseason, earning victories over Whitworth, Valley City State, and Montana State University-Northern, while having a bye during the first official week of Frontier play. Arizona Christian went 0-3 in the preseason against Fort Lewis, No. 23 Dakota State, and Mayville before opening conference play with a loss to No. 13 Carroll College last week. EOU is 3-0 all-time against the Firestorm, including a 26-6 victory in La Grande last season.
Softball will also be in action Saturday, hosting fall scrimmages against Walla Walla Community College and Idaho Intensity beginning at 10:30 a.m. PT at Peggy Anderson Field.
Baseball will round out the fall slate with a scrimmage against Blue Mountain Community College at noon at Optimist Field.
