PORTLAND, Ore. – EOU Men's Track and Field put together a strong showing in their second outdoor meet of the year. The Mounties finished in second just behind College of Idaho at the Lewis and Clark Friday Night Lights meet on Friday evening with a team total of 95.5 points. In total EOU had four first-place finishes.
 
Responsible for two of those first-place finishes was freshman thrower Mark Church. The Idaho native had a big day in the ring winning both the shot put and the discus. Church topped the podium with a throw of 13.55 meters in the shot put and a throw of 43.52 meters in the discus.
 
In the high jump it was Tyler Jones who took yet another win, this time clearing 1.95 meters in a dominant showing.
 
Leading the way for EOU in the long jump was freshman Dakota Pillister. The Gresham product finished in fifth place with a mark of 6.10 meters.
 
Moving over to the track, Eastern had one first-place finish thanks to Hunter Nichols. The senior posted a "B" Standard time of 14:48.56 setting a PR in the event while moving up in the EOU top-25 times. Travis Running finished in third place, not far behind, with a time of 15:56.62.
 
The Mountaineers also had strong performances in the hurdles with a pair of second-place finishes. Starting in the 110-meter hurdles, Israel Miles narrowly missed out on a first-place finish with a time of 15.16 seconds. Then in the 400-meter hurdles Bryson Spears took second place with a time of 59.88 seconds.
 
Eastern Oregon returns to action late next week at the Pacific University Multi Events Meet on Thursday and Friday in Forest Grove, Ore.
