LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon Men's and Women's Track & Field is set to compete this week, May 20-22, for the final competition of the season at the 74th Annual Outdoor Track & Field NAIA National Championships in Asheville, N.C. at the Karl Straus Track.
The Mountaineers will send a combined roster of 20 athletes — 11 men and nine women — to compete across sprints, distance, field events, multis, and relays in a national championship field featuring more than 140 schools and over 1,100 competitors.
On the women's side,
Elizabeth Grandle headlines the group in the heptathlon, entering the meet ranked No. 1 nationally with 5,160 points — a mark that stands as both a program record and a CCC Championships record. Grandle will also compete in the javelin, where she ranks 13th nationally with a throw of 42.95 meters.
In the distance events,
Riley Morris enters the 1,500-meter run ranked 13th nationally with a time of 4:33.44, while
Kaleah Hines sits 16th in the 10,000 meters at 36:54.93.
Sydney Peck will represent the Mounties in the sprint hurdles, entering the 400-meter hurdles ranked 19th nationally with a time of 1:01.97.
Eastern also qualified both women's relay squads after record-setting performances at the CCC Championships. The 4x100-meter relay team of
Melanie Boatman,
Taylor Joyce,
Nora Roscoe, and
Sara McKen enters tied for 19th nationally with a program-record time of 46.77. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Joyce, Roscoe, Peck, and
Hallee Hisler ranks 13th nationally after posting a school-record time of 3:49.26.
On the men's side, Eastern will be represented in the sprints by
Bryson Spears in the 400-meter hurdles and
Peter Daniels in the 400 meters. Spears enters the meet ranked 14th nationally with a time of 52.60, while Daniels is tied for 23rd nationally at 47.47 — a program record set at the CCC Championships.
In the field events,
Mark Church ranks 19th nationally in the discus with a throw of 49.56 meters and 14th in the hammer throw at 57.36 meters.
Dylan Buss and
Cody White will compete in the javelin, ranking 16th and 18th nationally with marks of 60.66 and 60.24 meters, respectively.
Eastern also qualified two men's relay teams. The 4x100-meter relay squad of
Jayce Bartley,
Keaton Moore, Spears, and
Nick Robinson enters the meet ranked 11th nationally with a program-record time of 40.52. The 4x400-meter relay team of Bartley, Moore, Daniels, and
Reuben Manzer sits ninth nationally after clocking a school-record time of 3:12.31 at the CCC Championships.
With multiple athletes ranked among the nation's top contenders, Eastern Oregon heads into the NAIA National Championships looking to cap a strong season with All-America honors and podium finishes.
