MONMOUTH, Ore.- The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (1-3) continued their preseason travels and took on the Western Oregon University Wolves (2-4) in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Game one for both teams included a lot of defense and late runs to force extra innings. After 13 innings, the Wolves took game one 5-4. The Mounties then rallied, scoring first in game two and then scoring late to take it 2-1.
Youhyeon Choi helped lift the Mounties going 4-9 on the day, having three runs and four stolen bases. Eastern looks forward to tomorrow when they will face Western Oregon at 11 am and 2 pm back in Monmouth.

GAME 1
The Mounties and the Wolves struggled to find a rhythm in game one offensively. Both teams were scoreless for nine of the 13 innings. Western's Justyn Herzog and Curran Mitzel brought in some offense to put them up 2-0. The Mounties then tallied five hits to bring in four runs to take the lead over the Wolves. The Wolves had two hits and then capitalized off a Mountie error to tie the game back up. The Wolves and Mounties then locked in defensively, allowing no runs in the 10th, 11th, and 12th innings. The Wolves then snagged the lone run in the bottom of the 13th to take game one 5-4 over the Mounties.Â

GAME 2Â
EOU went up early and took the lead late in the game to take their first win of the season against D2 opponent, Western Oregon.
Youhyeon Choi grabbed two runs and had three stolen bases to help the Mounties take game two of the day. Minimizing errors, holding the Wolves to four hits, and only allowing one run all game was the recipe to earn their first win. Justyn Herzog totaled two hits and the lone run for the Wolves, but it wasn't enough to edge this game into extra innings to take the win. Similar to game one, both teams totaled five scoreless innings, and defense will be the word of the day as only 12 runs were allowed between both teams on the day.Â
