EOU Totals Nine Top-10 Finishes on Final Day of OSU High Performance Meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Mountaineers Track & Field picked up nine more top-10 finishes on Saturday at the OSU High Performance Meet to close out the weekend slate of action. For the two days, Eastern Oregon walked away with 17 top-10 finishes, including one champion.

On day two, the Mounties saw the majority of their best finishes come in the field events with four of the top-10 placing being in the jump. Allexander Kosel led the way with two top-five finishes, placing third in triple jump and fourth in high jump.

In the triple jump, Kosel leaped 47-4 ½ to earn a third place finish. He cleared 6-2 ¾ in the high jump to place in the top-five. Tyler Jones led the way in high jump with a runner-up finish in the event. He cleared the bar at a height of 6-6 ¾ to earn the second place finish. Grabbing a seventh place finish in the triple jump as well was DJ Wilson with a mark of 44-0 ¾. 

For Jones, his mark is now the top height in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, while Kosel's height ranks third. For the EOU men, they now own five of the top-10 best marks in the high jump in the CCC, including the top-three.

In the throws, it was the efforts of freshman Tanner Nett that highlighted the group. He finished fourth in shot put with a mark of 50-4 ½. His mark is an NAIA B standard throw, ranking 31st, and second best in the CCC now. On the women's side, Maggie Ledbetter led the way with a fifth place finish in the shot. She heaved the rock 43-11 ¾ to finish in the top-five. 

On the track, EOU had one top-10 individual finish while two came in the relays. Cody Milmine was the lone individual top-10 finish in the 100-meter dash. He clocked an 11.04 to place ninth overall. Milmine was also part of the 4x40-meter relay, running the second leg, as the team placed second overall. The quartet of Kosel, Milmine, Hunter Nichols, and Jonathan Wind ran 3:24.90 for the runner-up finish.

On the women's side, the 4x400 squad finished fourth overall. Making up the team was Morgan Bayes, Katie Brown, Michelle Herbes, and Lauryn Mitchell as they ran a 4:03.44. Both times for the men and women now rank fourth in the CCC. Herbes also ran the fourth fastest time in the CCC in the 800-meter run, clocking a 2:17.44 and placed 16th overall. 

The Mounties will compete in two meets next weekend to begin the final month of the outdoor season. On the docket for EOU will be the Linfield Open and Portland Twilight, both of which will take place Saturday, May 7.

The Linfield Open is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start and the majority of EOU's athletes will compete there. The Portland Twilight begins at 3:30 p.m. and features just running events. It is hosted by Lewis & Clark College and a select number of athletes will run there.
