CORVALLIS, Ore. – Mountaineers Track & Field tallied eight top-10 finishes on Friday as the team competed in the first day of the OSU High Performance Meet hosted by Oregon State. Of the eight top-10 finishes for Eastern Oregon, two came in the top-five, including one champion.
Taking home a win was freshman
Justin Ash who won the 5,000-meter run. He clocked an NAIA B standard time of 14:45.28 to win the race and just missed the A qualifying time by five seconds. His time currently ranks 21st in the NAIA overall and is fifth fastest in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Earning the only other top-three finish on the day was
Jonathan Wind in the 1,500-meter run. He posted a time of 3:53.11 to place third and it is an NAIA A qualifying time for Outdoor Nationals. His time is 14th in the NAIA and third in the CCC.
The third highest finish on day one for the Mounties came from
Morgan Bayes in the 400-meter hurdles. She ran a time of 64.08 to place sixth in the one-lap obstacle race. Her time is a personal best and improves upon her NAIA B standard time. She now ranks 23rd in the NAIA and is still second in the CCC.
Two other athletes placed in the top-10 on the track in
Michelle Herbes in the 1,500-meter run Open and
Cristian Mendoza in the 5,000. Herbes clocked a 4:41.04 and placed eighth, while Mendoza ran a 14:53.02 and was seventh. Herbes' time is 26th in the NAIA now and sixth in the CCC. Mendoza's time ranks sixth in the CCC and was just three seconds off from an NAIA B standard mark.
In the field events,
Kenna Woodward and
Maggie Ledbetter rounded out the final top-10 finishes for the Mounties. Woodward led the charge with a sixth place finish in the hammer throw. She hit a mark of 162-8 to place in the top-10. Her throw is an NAIA B standard mark and moves her up to 17th in the NAIA and third in the CCC. For Ledbetter, she was 10th in the discus throw and hammer throw. She hit a mark of 129-6 in the discus and 156-2 in the hammer throw.
