Grandle, Chronister Dominate Heptathlon Field

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Eastern Oregon Track and Field wrapped up competition at the Pacific Multi on Tuesday, with Lizzy Grandle and Kaliyah Chronister claiming the top two spots in the women's heptathlon despite challenging rainy and windy conditions.

Competing in a 15-athlete field featuring NCAA, NAIA, and NWAC talent, both Mountaineers delivered standout performances across the two-day competition.

Grandle returned for day two and placed fifth in the long jump (4.88m), second in the javelin (33.84m), and sixth in the 800m (2:38.59). Combined with her day one results, she totaled 4,587 points to secure the overall title in her first outdoor heptathlon since 2024. Her performance puts her in strong position to qualify for the NAIA National Championships.

Chronister made a major move on day two, climbing from fourth to finish second overall in her first-ever heptathlon. She placed second in the long jump with a mark of 5.38m, ninth in the javelin (23.62m), and closed the competition with a first-place finish in the 800m (2:30.43). Chronister finished with 4,193 points, placing herself firmly in contention for nationals while eyeing further improvement at the upcoming CCC Multi-Event Championships in April. Her long jump ranks No. 10 in program history, while her total score sits No. 11 all-time at Eastern Oregon.

On the men's side, Stephen Pittman competed in the decathlon. After battling an injury on day two, Pittman was unable to complete all events but still recorded solid efforts, placing seventh in the discus (27.01m) and fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.64 — just 0.01 seconds off his personal best.

Eastern Oregon continues its outdoor season April 3 at the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, Washington, with events beginning at 12 p.m
