LA GRANDE, Ore. - 12th-ranked Mountaineers Volleyball picked up its 14th sweep of the season with a 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-14, 25-19) over in-state rival Southern Oregon University. With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 22-5 overall and 17-2 in CCC play.
How it Happened
• Eastern posted a .257 hitting percentage in the win and its defense held the Raiders (11-13, 7-12 CCC) to under a .100 attack clip of .066.
• Making a difference in the win was a staggering 7-2 edge in service aces in favor of EOU. The team also held the edge up front in blocks at 9-7.
• The first set saw the Mountaineers race out to a 4-0 lead but the Raiders slowly chipped away at it and forced a 7-all tie early on.
• Eastern answered with a 6-3 run to jump ahead 13-9 and force a Southern timeout. EOU managed to stay in front with a 17-14 lead midway through the frame before surging ahead late.
• The Mountaineers pushed their lead to 20-14 thanks to a 3-0 run and the Raiders never recovered. They mustered just three more points before falling 25-17.
• The second set was all Mountaineers as they steamrolled the Raiders by 11, 25-14. Eastern ripped off six straight points before SOU scored to make it a 6-1 contest to start.
• The fast start was all the Mountaineers needed as they controlled the frame by 5-6 points. Midway through, SOU got within four at 14-10, but it was short lived.
• EOU scored three straight to go ahead 17-10 before SOU answered but the Mountaineers quickly responded as well with a 6-0 run to go ahead 23-11.
• The Raiders once again had no answer for the Mountaineers. They scored just three more points before going down by two sets.
• The third and final set was a battle up until the midway point. The Raiders found themselves down 8-4 early on but never allowed the Mountaineers to create separation just yet.
• Eastern surged ahead 14-8 before a 6-1 run by SOU tied the contest at 15-all. The Raiders built momentum and it seemed the match may go past three sets. EOU once again answered.
• A 6-1 run by the Mountaineers opened their lead up to 21-16 and closed the door on any hopes of a comeback. EOU ended the set with three straight kills to walk away with the sweep.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders

Cambree Scott led the way with 10 kills on a match best .625 hitting percentage. She also had three blocks in the win.

Preslee Jensen added eight kills in the win to go along with three blocks.
•
Sade Williams chipped in six kills and had a match-high four blocks. She also had two service aces in the win.

Jet Taylor also tied the match-high in blocks with four.

Alexis McMurtrey dished out 16 assists, while
Hannah Ledgerwood had 12.
•
Hailey Arritola led the back row with 11 digs.
For the Raiders
• Hailey Van Well led the way on offense with seven kills and added three blocks on defense.
• Simone Gordon chipped in six kills in the loss.Â
• Carol Melo had a match-high four blocks and added two kills.
• Taylor Russell had a team best 10 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.
