LA GRANDE, Ore. - 12th-ranked Eastern Oregon Volleyball fell on Senior Night in a 3-1 loss (25-9, 22-25, 17-25, 23-25) to Oregon Tech inside Quinn Coliseum. The loss drops the Mountaineers record to 22-6 overall and 17-3 in CCC play.
How it Happened
• Eastern won the hitting battle at .181-.140, but OIT (20-5, 16-4 CCC) kept pace as both teams finished with 48 kills on the night.
• Eastern came out strong in the first set winning by a staggering 16 points, 25-9. The Mountaineers raced out to a 8-1 lead and never looked back.
• The double digit lead for Eastern came at 18-8 and the Hustlin' Owls mustered just one more point the rest of the set before falling by 16.
• Following the opener frame, the rest of the night belonged to the Hustlin' Owls who won the next three sets to secure the four-set win.
• In the second set, OIT jumped ahead 10-6 to start before OEU fought back to get within one at 13-12. OIT then surged ahead 17-14 to maintain its lead.
• Eastern once again fought its way back into the set and got within two, 21-19, late but never got any closer than two points before falling by three, 25-22.
• Set No. 2 started off as a back-and-forth affair with the two squads trading points. Midway through the frame it was a 15-13 game in favor of OIT.
• The Hustlin' Owls found a rhythm on defense and held EOU to just four more points the rest of the set to secure the 25-17 win and a 2-1 match lead.
• In the third set, OIT continued its strong play and raced out to an 8-3 lead on the Mountaineers. EOU chipped away at the lead and got within two at 13-11 midway through the set.
• OIT responded and surged ahead 17-11. As the set wore on, the Hustlin' Owls led 24-19 before EOU made one last effort at a comeback.
• The Mountaineers ripped off four straight points to make it a one-point game at 24-23. The comeback effort ended though on an attack error by EOU to give OIT a 25-23 win and the match victory, 3-1.
