Mountaineers Pick up Four-Set Win at LC State

LEWISTON, Idaho - No. 13 Mountaineers Volleyball picked up their 17th win of the season Friday night with a 3-1 win (25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22) over Lewis-Clark State College. With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 17-5 overall and 12-2 in conference play.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers barely outhit .167-.166 the Warriors (11-11, 6-8 CCC) in the win. Both teams had eight service aces, but Eastern won the block battle 9-6. LC State had the edge in kills 56-44.
• In the opening frame, the two squads traded points with neither going ahead by more than two points. LC State led 13-11 near the midway point before EOU responded to go ahead 16-14. 
• Late in the set the Mountaineers jumped ahead 21-18 to force a Warriors timeout. LC State battled back to tie it at 21-all before Eastern took the set 25-22 to go ahead by one set.
• Set two was another close bout as the Mountaineers secured a 25-21 win. LC State raced out to a 4-0 lead but it was short lived as the Mountaineers fought back to go ahead 5-4.
• EOU grabbed an 11-8 lead on LC State to force a timeout. The lead grew to 18-13 and LC State burned its second timeout. Trailing 21-16, the Warriors cut the score to 23-21 before EOU closed out with the 25-21 win.
• The third set was once started in the Warriors favor who jumped ahead 5-0. The Warriors led by 5-6 points through most of the set. Midway through the set, EOU got within two at 14-12.
• EOU tied the match at 15-all and stayed within 1-2 points until they jumped ahead 23-20. The Warriors then surged back with a 5-0 run to secure a 25-23 win.
• The fourth set was another back-and-forth affair. EOU grabbed a 7-4 lead to start but the Warriors slowly chipped away at the lead to grab a 11-10 edge. 
• The Mountaineers kept things close and went back ahead 14-12. Eastern pushed the lead to 17-14 and 24-20 late in the set. LC State made one last push and got within two, 24-22, before the Mountaineers secured the 25-22 win.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Breanna Shaffer led the offense with 12 kills and hit .225 in the win. 
• Sade Williams added nine kills in the win and tied a team-high in digs with 16.
• Madison Morgan also had nine kills and hit .258 in the win.
• Cambree Scott led the front row with six blocks and chipped in five kills.
• Alexis McMurtrey had a match best 27 assists in the win.
• Hailey Arritola led the back row with 16 digs.

For the Warriors
• Cassidy Nelson led all players with 24 kills.
• Tori Edwards added eight kills in the loss and hit .333 for the night.
• Hannah Martinez led the way in assists with 24.
• Jada Wyms had five blocks to lead the defense up front.
• Kenzie Dean had a match best 22 digs to lead the back row defense.

7 - Eastern is now 7-0 against LC State under the direction of Kaki McLean Morehead.
6 - The Mountaineers are now 6-0 in four-set matches this season.
1 - Friday's match is the first true road contest for EOU at LC State.
2 - EOU has now hit under .200 in each of its last two wins.
