WALLA WALLA, Wash. - No. 13 Eastern Oregon Mountaineers Volleyball picked up its 13th sweep of the season Saturday night as the team took down Walla Walla University, 3-0, on the road. The Mountaineers won by final scores of 25-11, 25-14, and 25-14. With the victory, EOU is now 18-5 overall and 13-2 in CCC play.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers hit .280 in the win while their defense held the Wolves (0-16, 0-15 CCC) to a negative attack clip of -.061. Both squads had five blocks in the match but a 10-4 edge in service aces helped EOU to the sweep.
• Offensively, Eastern finished with 34 kills and held WWU to just 14 on the night. The Wolves never eclipsed double-digit kills in any set.
• The first set saw the Mounties race out to a 9-0 lead before the Wolves managed to score a point. By the midway point, EOU was in complete control leading 15-6.
• The lead grew to 21-9 before WWU broke 10 points to 21-10. The Wolves mustered just one more point the rest of the set before succumbing to a 25-11 loss to go down 1-0.
• Despite a solid start in the opening frame, EOU found itself down early in the second as WWU grabbed a 7-4 lead. The Wolves held consistency and eventually led 13-10 at the midway point.
• The Mountaineers responded from the 13-10 deficit and went on an 11-0 run to lead 21-13 and killed any momentum the Wolves had. WWU added just one more before EOU walked away with the 25-14 win and 2-0 lead.
• The third and final frame of action was deja vu in terms of the score as EOU won 25-14 once again. EOU jumped ahead 4-0 to start but the Wolves answered to get within one 5-4 early on.
• The two teams traded points before the Wolves jumped ahead 9-7. The lead was short lived as EOU pushed the lead back in its favor at 13-10.
• WWU got within two at 13-11 before another 11-0 run by the Mountaineers ultimately negated any chances of it being close. EOU surged ahead 24-11 before closing out with the 11-point win and series sweep.
