Mountaineers Make Quick Work of Yotes with 3-0 Sweep Inside Quinn Coliseum

LA GRANDE, Ore. - 13th-ranked Mountaineers Volleyball picked up its fourth-straight win Tuesday night in a 3-0 sweep of rival College of Idaho (25-14, 25-23, 25-21). Eastern Oregon's win secured the season sweep of the Yotes, improving the team's record to 19-5 overall and 14-2 in conference play.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers offense was clicking with a .341 attack clip while their defense held the Yotes (10-14, 7-9 CCC) to under .200 at .150.
• Despite the edge in hitting percentage, both squads finished with 39 kills and five service aces each. Up front, Eastern won the blocking battle 7-4.
• In the first set, the Mountaineers raced out to an 11-4 lead against the Yotes. The fast start was all it took for EOU as C of I had no answer.
• The Yotes never got any closer than nine points as the rhythm of the Mountaineers offense went on to win the set 25-14.
• In the second frame, the Mountaineers jumped ahead 5-2 to start. C of I got within one at 5-4 before a 6-1 run by Eastern made it an 11-5 score and forced a Yotes timeout.
• Midway through the set, it looked like the Mounties were going to run away with the win as their lead grew to 17-11. The Yotes then called timeout and battled back to make things interesting.
• The Yotes pieced together what was a 11-5 run that knotted the second set at a 22-all tie. EOU held composure though and gave up just one more point en route to the 25-23 win.
• Leading 2-0, Eastern was comfortably in the driver's seat but C of I made it a battle in the third set from start to finish.
• The two teams traded points at the start and were locked at multiple ties up until the midway point. It was a 9-all tie before Eastern used a small surge, 5-2, to grab a 14-11 lead.
• C of I used a timeout to slow the momentum and out of the break the Yotes scored three straight to force a 14-14 tie. Eastern answered jumping ahead 19-16 and C of I used its final timeout.
• Another 3-0 run by C of I led to a tie once again, this time at 19-all. The Mountaineers then put away the Yotes for good, allowing just two more points to secure the 25-21 win and the sweep.
