LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 13 Eastern Oregon Volleyball picked up its 20th win of the season Friday night with a 3-1 victory over Warner Pacific (25-10, 25-20, 24-26, 25-12) inside Quinn Coliseum. With the win, EOU improves to 20-5 overall and is 15-2 in conference play.
How it Happened
• A .373 hitting percentage guided the EOU offense in the win, the defense held Warner Pacific (1-19, 1-16 CCC) to a mere .058 attack clip. A 12-2 difference in blocks helped guide EOU to its seventh win at home.
• EOU also had the advantage in kills at 59-35 and posted double figure kills in each set. The Knights only led in one statistical category in service aces with a 6-5 edge.
• EOU grabbed a 7-3 lead early on in the first set and eventually jumped ahead 10-5 to lead to a timeout by WPU. It made little difference as a 6-0 run that started at 8-5 gave the Mountaineers a 13-5 lead.
• The Mountaineers cruised to the opening set win as they held the Knights to just 10 points to secure the 25-10 victory and a 1-0 lead. Three kills from
Jet Taylor,
Preslee Jensen and
Cambree Scott paced Eastern early on. Scott also had three blocks in the frame.
• The Knights showed some fight in the second set but ultimately fell 25-20 to go down 2-0. Early on it was tied at 4-4 before a quick 5-0 surge by EOU made it a 9-4 game.Â
• After the quick run by the Mountaineers, they never allowed the Knights to tie again in the frame. EOU led by 3-7 points much of the set until late.
• Midway through, the lead grew to 17-10 for EOU before a slow 7-3 run by the Knights made it a three-point contest, 20-17, late.
• Eastern responded as kills by Jensen and
Sade Williams and a service ace from
Mariah Moulton put the team ahead 23-17. WPU managed just three more points before back-to-back kills by Scott ended the frame and put the Mounties up 2-0.
• The Knights avoided the sweep in the third thanks to a mid-set rally that kept them in the match. EOU jumped ahead 4-1 to start before WPU responded and tied things up at 7-all.
• Midway through the set, EOU clung to an 11-10 lead before a 4-0 run by the Knights put them ahead by three, 14-11. EOu was able to tie a few times but never regained the lead.
• Late in the frame, it was 19-19 tie but the knights then scored three unanswered to go ahead 22-19 and force an EOU timeout.
• Eastern responded out of the timeout and forced a 24-all tie but was unable to get over the hump before dropping the set 26-24.
• In the fourth set, the Mountaineers disposed of any hopes by the Knights of going to five with a 25-12 win. Early on the Knights did have the momentum though and grabbed a 9-8 lead.
• The lead for the Knights was short lived as a 10-0 run by the Mountaineers opened up the score to 19-9.
• WPU mustered just three more points the rest of the way as the surge by the Mountaineers was the backbreaker and allowed them to coast to the 13-point win and four-set victory.
