CLEVELAND, Ohio — Following a strong performance across its winter sports programs, Eastern Oregon University sits at No.12 in the NAIA Learfield Directors' Cup standings, as announced Thursday morning by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
The Learfield Directors' Cup, a partnership between NACDA and USA Today, recognizes overall athletic excellence. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish at NAIA Championships, with final standings determined after the spring season concludes.
Eastern Oregon has accumulated 250.50 points during the winter, fueled by standout performances in men's and women's wrestling, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's indoor track and field. Combined with 257 points earned during the fall, the Mountaineers now hold 507.50 total points.
Men's Indoor Track and Field led the way with 56.5 points. The Mountaineers qualified nine athletes for the NAIA National Championships and earned three All-American finishes:
Justin Krabbenhoft placed second in the heptathlon,
Mark Church finished eighth in the weight throw, and the 4x400 relay team of
Peter Daniels,
Osman Osman,
Keaton Moore, and
Reuben Manzer took fifth.
Men's Basketball followed with 50 points after claiming a share of the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title and advancing to the second round of the NAIA National Championship. The Mountaineers finished 22-9 overall and received votes in the national poll.
Women's Wrestling contributed 48 points, featuring five individually ranked competitors and a team that also received votes nationally. The Mountaineers placed three wrestlers at the CCC Championships to earn automatic national berths and added two more through at-large selections.
Men's Wrestling added 43.5 points, highlighted by a No. 23 national ranking and four individually ranked athletes. Eastern Oregon placed sixth at the CCC Championships, with eight wrestlers finishing in the top eight. Four earned automatic qualification to nationals, with one additional at-large selection.
Nico Rodriguez secured All-American honors with a seventh-place finish.
Women's Indoor Track and Field totaled 27.5 points after qualifying 10 athletes for the national meet.
Riley Morris led the group with a fourth-place, All-American finish in the 1,000 meters.
Women's Basketball rounded out the winter scoring with 25 points. The Mountaineers earned a share of the CCC regular-season title and advanced to the first round of the NAIA National Championship, finishing 25-6 overall and ranked No. 14 in the national poll.
Within the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Eastern Oregon currently sits second, trailing only the College of Idaho. The Yotes rank No. 11 nationally with 509.50 points, bolstered by strong performances in basketball, swimming, and indoor track and field. Southern Oregon also represents the CCC in the top 25, coming in at No. 16 with 437.50 points.
