Eastern Oregon Falls To No.24 LC State

LEWISTON, Idaho Eastern Oregon dropped both games of their doubleheader against No.24 Lewis-Clark State on Saturday at Harris Field. The Mountaineers fell 6-4 in the first game and 11-3 in game 2.

Game 1: Lewis-Clark State 6, Eastern Oregon 4

Despite battling back from an early deficit, the Mountaineers came up short in a hard-fought opening game. Eastern Oregon fell behind 4-0 after the first three innings, with Lewis-Clark State's Ike George homering in the third and a sacrifice fly bringing in another unearned run in the same inning. The Mountaineers responded in the fourth when Danny Burns tripled to right field, driving in Greyson McDaniel. In the fifth, Parker Cumberlan's solo homer and a groundout from Mario Landeros brought the Mountaineers within one, 4-3.

In the sixth, McDaniel tied the game with a solo home run, but the Warriors responded in the eighth. Jack Sheward's two-run triple in the top of the eighth gave Lewis-Clark State a 6-4 lead, which they held onto for the victory.

McDaniel led the Mountaineers with a 2-for-4 performance, including a home run and two runs scored. Burns and Cumberlan also contributed offensively. On the mound, Shane Sinclair took the loss.

Game 2: Lewis-Clark State 11, Eastern Oregon 3

Game two saw the Warriors explode offensively, taking a 7-0 lead after five innings. Lewis-Clark State got on the board in the third inning with a two-run homer from Updegrave, bringing in George, and added five more runs in the fifth. Updegrave hit a grand slam, and Kai Pagan followed with a two-run double to make it 7-0.

Eastern Oregon showed some fight in the eighth inning, scoring two runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Alex Olague. However, the Warriors responded with four more runs in the bottom of the eighth, including an RBI double from Izzy Madariaga and a two-run single from Updegrave to extend their lead to 11-2. In the ninth, Landeros singled in Trevor Baker for the Mountaineers' final run.

Baker led the way with four hits, while McDaniel added three. On the mound, Will Seslar took the loss.

Eastern Oregon will look to regroup and bounce back in the final games of the series, scheduled for tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. PT back in Lewiston.
