LEWISTON, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers struggled to find offensive momentum on Sunday, dropping both games of their doubleheader against No. 24-ranked Lewis-Clark State at Harris Field. EOU fell 10-0 in game one before suffering a 12-1 defeat in the second contest.
Game One: Lewis-Clark State 10, Eastern Oregon 0
The Mountaineers were held scoreless in the opener as the Warriors' pitching staff limited EOU to just six hits. Eastern Oregon starter Danny Burns (2-2) battled through 5.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Zakaia Michaels and Ryan Etzkorn combined in relief, but the Warriors' bats remained steady, tallying 12 total hits.
Ike George led the offensive charge for Lewis-Clark State, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Izzy Madariaga added three hits and three RBIs. The Warriors plated runs in five different innings, including a three-run seventh that put the game out of reach.
Game Two: Lewis-Clark State 12, Eastern Oregon 1
In the second game, Eastern Oregon's offense managed to push across a run in the fourth inning on a run-scoring single by Carson Gerding, but it was not enough to keep pace with the Warriors. Lewis-Clark State capitalized on Eastern Oregon's miscues, scoring five runs in both the second and sixth innings.
EOU starter Tucker Zander (2-2) took the loss, surrendering six runs—five earned—over two innings. The Warriors were powered by a three-run homer from Jack Sheward in the second inning and a two-run single by Evan Overmars in the sixth.
Grayson McDaniel led the Mountaineers at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Gerding went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Eastern Oregon (5-13, 2-7 CCC) will look to regroup as they return home for a conference series next weekend against Warner Pacific, beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
