Eastern Drops Series to Bushnell

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. Eastern Oregon's pitching gave the Mountaineers a chance in Saturday's opener, but a late-inning run was the difference in a 1-0 loss to Bushnell at the Hamlin Sports Complex. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Beacons defeated EOU 12-6 to complete the sweep in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Game 1: Bushnell 1, Eastern Oregon 0

A pitchers' duel unfolded in the opener as both teams were held scoreless through six innings. Bushnell (26-6, 16-4 CCC) broke the deadlock in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out RBI single from Chase Nye, scoring Jacob Wood from second to provide the game's only run.

Eastern Oregon (9-22, 5-15 CCC) starter Danny Burns (3-4) gave a strong performance, going seven innings and allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out seven. Zakaia Michaels pitched a scoreless eighth in relief.

The Mountaineers were limited to two hits—one from Marcos Landeros and Mason Van Arsdall—and stranded eight baserunners. EOU drew seven walks but couldn't find the timely hit, leaving the bases loaded in the fourth.

Game 2: Bushnell 12, Eastern Oregon 6

Eastern Oregon jumped out to a 6-2 lead through three innings, but Bushnell responded with 10 unanswered runs to take control and win 12-6, completing the doubleheader sweep.
Trevor Baker led the EOU offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Greyson McDaniel added two hits and scored twice. The Mounties capitalized early with a three-run third inning, aided by RBI hits from Baker and McDaniel.

Bushnell's offense was powered by Albert Jennings once again. The senior outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh and totaled six RBIs on the game, going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. Nye and Reece Carganilla also had strong showings—Nye scored three runs with three hits, and Carganilla added a two-run double in the fifth.

EOU starter Will Seslar (0-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs over four innings. In total, the Mountaineers used four pitchers who combined to give up 15 hits and 12 earned runs.

Eastern Oregon will stay on the road and head to Klamath Falls next weekend to face Oregon Tech in a doubleheader on April 4, starting at 12 p.m.
