La Grande, Ore. – Eastern Oregon erupted for 11 runs on 11 hits, defeating College of Idaho 11-3 in CCC play at Optimist Field on Sunday, taking the series 2-1.
The Mountaineers took control early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Carson Gerding provided the big blow with a three-run homer to center field, scoring
Mason Van Arsdall and
Mario Landeros. The Mountaineers tacked on two more in the fourth when
Rogelio Gonzales delivered a two-run single to center, extending their lead to 5-1.
Gerding, who finished the game with two hits and six RBIs, launched another three-run homer in the seventh inning, making it 9-1.
Trevor Baker also contributed offensively with a two-run homer in the eighth to cap Eastern Oregon's dominant performance.
On the mound,
Danny Burns (2-1) earned the win for the Mountaineers, throwing 7.1 innings, allowing just one run on six hits, and striking out six.
Sam McCauley came on in relief to close the game, giving up two runs in 1.2 innings.
The Yotes generated a late offense. Chandler Stocking hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Bryan Ebe added a solo shot in the ninth. Stocking also contributed with a double and a run scored in the final frame.
The Mountaineers will now travel to Lewiston to face No.7 Lewis-Clark State on Saturday March 8th, fist pitch set for 12 p.m.
