GULF SHORES, Ala. – Mountaineers Track & Field tallied two All-Americans on day two of the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in
TJ Davis and
Maggie Ledbetter. The duo became the first outdoor All-Americans for Eastern Oregon and it is the second of the year for both.
Davis was the national runner-up in the decathlon as he scored 6,941 points in the multi-events. In the final five events, he scored a pair of top-two finishes to help stay in the top-two. He won the 110-meter hurdles, running a 14.64, and was second in the pole vault with a height of 14-5 ¼. Davis was 12th in the discus with a throw 104-5 and was 10th in the javelin with a mark of 145-5. In the final event of the 1,500-meter run, he clocked a 4:38.59.
In the shot put, Ledbetter capped her EOU career with another All-American performance. She grabbed her fourth overall All-America award and second for outdoors. After finishing eighth a year ago in this event, Ledbetter improved with a fifth place finish this time around. She heaved the rock a distance 45-1 ½ on her final throw to jump from seventh to the top-five.
Also competing on day two was
Judson Mansfield in the decathlon and
Allexander Kosel in the long jump. In the multi-events, Mansfield finished 12th overall with a total of 6,077 points. He had a pair of top-10 finishes, placing eighth in the discus throw with a mark of 110-4 and tied for seventh in the pole vault with a height of 13-5 ¼.
In the 110 hurdles, Mansfield ran a 16.51 and placed 12th. He was 11th in the javelin throw with a mark of 145-0. He capped the event with a 12th place finish in the 1,500 with a time of 5:07.01. For Kosel in long jump, he ultimately did not compete due to unforeseen circumstances.
Wrapping up the outdoor season for the Mounties will be six athletes. On the track,
Morgan Bayes,
Hunter Nichols, and
Justin Ash will run in the finals for their respective events. Nichols will run first at 1:10 p.m. PT in the 1,500, while Bayes will run in the 400-meter hurdles at 2:10 p.m. PT. Ash closes things out at 3:55 p.m. PT in the 5,000-meter run.
In the field, competing will be Ledbetter, Kosel, and
Darrian Walker. Ledbetter will compete in the discus throw and Walker will compete in the pole vault, both of which start at 11 a.m. PT. Kosel will compete in the triple jump, which begins at 11:30 a.m. PT.
