Mountaineers Host Warriors for Senior Weekend

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Baseball wraps up the 2022 season this weekend with a two-day four-game series against in-state foe Corban University. It will also be Senior Weekend for the Mounties as they will honor 10 outstanding seniors on Sunday.

First Pitch
• The Mountaineers (11-32, 4-14 CCC) will look to send their seniors out on a high note to close out 2022.
• The series between EOU and Corban will be the second of the season between the two squads. 
• Eastern is coming off a 2-2 split against College of Idaho and will look to win its first CCC series of the year.
• Following the weekend finale, should EOU win out the series, they may likely need to play two makeup games against LC State and British Columbia.

Story Lines
• This will be just the third time EOU will play at home in 2022.
• The Mounties will have 10 seniors recognized on day two.
• Last weekend was the first full four-game series EOU played since late March.
• Since reinstatement, the Mounties are just 2-10 against the Warriors.

2022 Seniors
• The Mountaineers will honor 10 seniors on day two prior to the doubleheader tilt for their contributions to the baseball program.
• Being honored on Sunday is Kolbe Bales, Austin Brown, Zach Brown, Trevor Curl, Brooks Dyer, McKlane Elgin, Payton Hamilton, Nick Jennings, Carsten Manderbach, and Dylan Myers.

Quick Hits
Last Time Out

• Eastern split its series at College of Idaho, going 2-2. Both wins came on day two.
• The Yotes edged the Mounties in two close games, 12-8 and 8-5, on day one.
• On day two, EOU bounced back, holding C of I to just five runs in both games.
• In game three, Slayder Watterson pitched a near complete game, going 8.2 frames, as EOU won 12-5.
• In the finale, the Mounties held off a late rally by the Yotes to secure the 8-5 win.

Series History vs. Corban
• Earlier this season, EOU fell 3-1 on the road in a non-conference series against Corban.
• Last season, the Mounties were just 1-7 against the Warriors in a pair of four-game series.
• Eastern won its first match-up against Corban, 3-2, before dropping the next seven games.
• Since reinstatement in 2021, Eastern is just 2-10 against Corban.

There is No Place Like Home … When We're There
• Eastern has played just seven games at home in 2022. In that span, they are 2-5.
• The seven games for EOU came against just two opponents in Bushnell and LC State.
• Since 2021, EOU has played a total of just 19 games at home since reinstatement.
• The Mounties two wins over Bushnell were their first at home against an in-state opponent.

Batter Up!
• EOU has tallied five or more hits in 33 of their 43 games played this season.
• Eastern had a season best 19 hits in the win over Oklahoma Panhandle State.
• Against Bushnell, EOU tallied 16 hits in the finale which is the most at home this season.
Matt Garcia leads the bats, based on requirements, with a .276 average.
Hector Carreon leads the way in home runs with four. Elliott Marks is second with three.

It's Not Stealing If You Don't Get Caught
• Entering the weekend, EOU is still 33-48 on stolen base attempts.
Austin Gerding leads the way in stolen bases with seven on 10 attempts in 22 starts.
Garret Kollar is second in stolen bases with six on eight attempts.

Doing Work on the Mound
• The Mountaineers have racked up six more strikeouts in 22 games this year.
• Eastern racked up a season best 15 strikeouts in game two of their series against Bushnell
Jaydon Yancey leads the pitching staff in strikeouts with 42. Davis Brown is second with 38.
Nick Jennings is climbing up the ranks and is third in strikeouts with 33 in eight games played.

Matt Garciais tied for third in the CCC in triples hit with five.
Jaydon Yancey is seventh in innings pitched at 63.1
Davis Brown and Yancey are tied for third in complete games with one.

Scouting the Corban Warriors
• The Warriors enter the weekend with a 21-22-1 overall record. They are 8-12 in league play and are 8-15-1 in true road games.
• As a team, the Warriors are batting .255. They have scored 206 runs, totaled 185 RBI and have hit 13 home runs on the year.
• On the mound, Corban sports a 4.51 team ERA. They have struck out 324 batters and allowed 149 walks. They have surrendered 26 home runs.
• Defensively, the Warriors have a .956 fielding percentage. They have turned 35 double plays and committed 69 errors.
• Kyle Clay leads the bats with a .348 average. He has a team-high 25 RBI. and scored 24 runs. He is tied for the lead in homers with two and has a team best 10 doubles hit. He also leads the team in stolen bases at 11-12.
• Estenio Sede is second in hitting with a .287 average. He is second in RBI with 23 and has scored 16 runs.
• Ryan Clay is the leader in runs scored with 29. He bats .274 and has tallied 11 RBI. He is also 7-11 on the year in stolen bases.
• Zack Simon leads the pitching staff in strikeouts with 85. He boasts a 1.85 ERA and is 5-4 in 11 starts. He has pitched two complete games.
• Mason Shaw is second in strikeouts with 48. He has a 4.88 ERA and sports a 5-3 ERA in 12 starts.
• Nate Martin has pitched the most complete games with three. He is 4-4 with a 2.12 ERA and has 44 strikeouts.

Up Next
• If the Mountaineers win out this weekend, they will have a shot at making the CCC Tournament. They will need to play a pair of makeup games, against LC State and British Columbia, and win both for a chance at making the postseason.
