LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineers Track & Field had a busy Friday afternoon as the team hosted the Eastern Oregon Open at Banner Bank Track. With weekend meets around the NAIA wrapped up, the Mounties now know where their results stand nationally and in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
In all, the Mounties tallied 15 event wins for the one day meet. Picking up multiple wins as individuals was
Katie Brown in the short sprints,
Maggie Ledbetter in the throws, and
Allexander Kosel in the horizontal jumps. All three athletes had two wins on the day and hit high marks for the conference championships.
Highlighting the trio was Kosel he hit an NAIA A standard in the long jump and a B standard in the triple jump. He leaped 23-10 ¼ in the long jump to automatically qualify for Outdoor Nationals and his mark is currently sixth in the NAIA. In the triple jump, Kosel posted a mark of 47-8 ½ to secure his second win. That mark currently stands 10th in the NAIA. He also placed third in the high jump with a height of 6-3 ½. His long and triple jump marks lead the CCC, while his high jump mark is now third.
On the track, Brown once again swept the short sprints, winning both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. She clocked a 12.29 in the 100 and a 25.42 in the 200. Her time in the 100 is now fourth in the CCC, while her 200 time ranks fifth. She also anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay team that ran a 49.31 and was the leadoff leg on the winning 4x400-meter relay that ran a 4:06.85.
The 4x100 squad consisted of
Emmy Williams,
Morgan Bayes,
Madison MacMillan, and Brown. The quartet's time is fourth in the CCC, while 4x400 time is third. In the 4x400 for the Mountaineer women with Brown was
Lauryn Mitchell, Bayes, and
Michelle Herbes.
On the men's side for the relays, both "A" teams for EOU walked away winners as well. The 4x100 squad clocked a 42.72 for the win and it is second fastest in the league. Making up the 4x100 team was
DJ Wilson, Kosel,
Bryce Peters, and
Cody Milmine. The 4x400 team of Kosel,
Jacob Gates, Peters, and Wilson clocked a 3:27.44 for the win and their time is now fifth in the CCC.
Continuing to roll in the field events is
Maggie Ledbetter, who won both the shot put and discus, while placing second in the hammer throw. She hit 43-9 ¼ in the shot put, winning by over four feet. She chucked the discus 136-5 and nearly won by over 10 feet. In the hammer throw, Ledbetter hit 159-4 to secure the runner-up finish.
EOU secured a sweep in the 100, as Milmine was the event winner in the men's race. He clocked a 10.77 for the win and his time now leads the CCC. Peters was second in the race, running 11.01. His time is sixth fastest in the CCC now.
Rounding out wins for the Eastern Oregon Men was
Mason Nichols in the 110-meter hurdles. He ran a 15.54 and edged second place out by just .02 seconds. His time now sits fourth best in the CCC.
Earning wins on the track for the Mountaineer women were
Madelyn Nichols in the 800-meter run and Bayes in the 400-meter hurdles. Nichols ran a 2:25.22 in the two lap sprint, while Bayes posted a 65.19 in the one-lap obstacle race.
Rounding out the wins for EOU was
Darrian Walker, who once again secured victory in the pole vault. He cleared 15-7 for the win, while teammate
Gabriel Streblow was second with a mark of 13-1 ½. Streblow's mark also qualified him for the CCC Championships and ranks 12th.
In all, the Mounties had 31 CCC qualifying marks hit on their home field. Up next for the team is the Oregon State High Performance Meet. A select few athletes will travel to the meet which is set to take place April 29-20 in Corvallis.
