Mountaineers Baseball Returns to Caldwell for Rematch Against Yotes

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon Baseball is back in action this weekend after having the previous week off. The Mountaineers head down the road on Interstate-84 to face rival college of Idaho for a second time this season, only this time around it will be a league series.

First Pitch
• The Mountaineers (9-30, 2-12 CCC) are not strangers to playing on the road and this will be their second time playing in Caldwell this season.
• Eastern Oregon 's series against College of Idaho will be their second to last one of the 2022 season.
• The Mounties will also look to snap a six-game skid when they head to Wolfe Field for their four-game series against the Yotes.
• Following this weekend's series, EOU will return home for the final time in 2022 next weekend for a four-game tilt against in-state foe corban University.

Story Lines
• The Mountaineers and Yotes will square off for the second time this season. Cof I leads the series 3-1.
• Entering the weekend, EOU has played 32 total games away from home and just seven on its home turf.
• Since reinstatement, EOU has won four games against the Yotes.
• Due to weather conditions, the Mounties have had each of their last two series match-ups end at three contests.

Quick Hits
Last Time Out

• EOU fell in three games against then No. 4 Lewis-Clark State at home back April 8 and 9. The fourth game was postponed due to weather.
• The Warriors blanked the Mounties in the series opener, 7-0, on Friday. EOU was held to just four hits in the day one loss.
• Day featured a doubleheader that LC State swept to secure a series win. The Warriors won game two in seven frames, 18-3, before posting a 13-4 win in what was ultimately the finale.

Series History vs. College of Idaho
• Earlier this season, EOU and c of I squared off in Caldwell, with the Yotes winning the series 3-1.
• Eastern won the series opener, 8-5, before falling in the next three. All three games were close as C of I edged EOU by scores of 7-4, 9-6, and 6-3.
• The Mountaineers and Yotes squared off 16 times since last season in EOU's first year back since 2006. C of I was 9-3 against EOU in 2021.
• All-time, the Yotes lead the series 177-52 against the Mounties.

There is No Place Like Home … When We're There
• Eastern has played just seven games at home in 2022. In that span, they are 2-5.
• The seven games for EOU came against just two opponents in Bushnell and LC State.
• Since 2021, EOU has played a total of just 19 games at home since reinstatement.
• The Mounties two wins over Bushnell were their first at home against an in-state opponent.

• EOU has tallied five or more hits in 29 of their 39 games played this season.
• Eastern had a season best 19 hits in the win over Oklahoma Panhandle State.
• Against Bushnell, EOU tallied 16 hits in the finale which is the most at home this season.
Matt Garcia leads the bats, based on requirements, with a .276 average.

It's Not Stealing If You Don't Get Caught
• Entering the weekend, EOU is still 29-42 on stolen base attempts.
Austin Gerding leads the way in stolen bases with seven on 10 attempts in 21 starts.
Garret Kollar is second in stolen bases with five on seven attempts.

Doing Work on the Mound
• The Mountaineers have racked up six more strikeouts in 21 games this year.
• Eastern racked up a season best 15 strikeouts in game two of their series against Bushnell
Jaydon Yancey leads the pitching staff in strikeouts with 40. Davis Brown is second with 38.
Nick Jennings is climbing up the ranks and is third in strikeouts with 31 in seven games played.

Matt Garciais tied for third in the CCC in triples hit with five. 
Jaydon Yancey is sixth in innings pitched at 59.0.
• Both Davis Brown and Yancey are tied for third in complete games with one, respectively.
• Yancey also ranks ninth in opponent batting average allowing just .260.

Scouting the Yotes
• C of I enters the weekend with a 24-23 overall record and is 12-8 in league action. At home, the team owns a 15-11 record.
• As a team, the Yotes are batting .274. They have scored 286 runs, tallied 253 RBI, and hit 26 home runs entering the weekend.
• On the mound, C of I sports a 5.54 team ERA. They have fanned 309 batters and given up 31 home runs. 
• Defensively, the Yotes have a .955 fielding percentage. They have committed 76 errors. They have turned 28 double plays this season.
• Jonah Hultberg continues to lead the bats with a .419 average. He has 40 RBI, and scored 60 runs. He has hit 19 doubles and has a team best nine home runs. 
• Alex McFarland-Smith is second in hitting with a .337 batting average. He leads the team in RBI with 44 and is second in home runs at six. 
• Skyler Sadora is third in batting average at .306. He has hit four homers, tallied 32 RBI, and scored 34 runs.
• On the mound, Dimick Wood leads the way in strikeouts with 59. He is 5-3 on the year with a 5.15 ERA. He leads the way in innings pitched at 64.2.
