CALDWELL, Idaho – Mountaineers Track & Field wrapped up day one action at the Polar Vortex Classic, hosted by College of Idaho. Highlighting the day was quality performances by three Mountaineer women.
Karli Bedard and
Samantha Conley both posted a pair of all-time top-10 performances in the pentathlon. Bedard posted 3,032 points to win the event and it is the sixth highest total in program history. Conley was second with 3,023 points and now ranks seventh all-time. For Bedard, her point total is 422 points above her previous best and both athletes' totals are above the NAIA qualifying standard.
Also improving in the indoor record books was
Katie Brown in the 200-meter dash prelims. She ran a 25.57, which is now 0.9 seconds faster than her previous best. Her time also moves her up No. 4 all-time in EOU's indoor history. She was just 0.07 seconds off from an NAIA B standard time.
In the heptathlon,
Judson Mansfield is second after day one with 2,609 points. He is just 17 points back of the overall lead. He had personal best marks in the 60-meter dash (7.42), long jump (20-6 ½), and the shot put (36-7 ½).
In pole vault,
Gabriel Streblow won the event on the men's side with a height clearance of 12-4 ½. On the women's side,
Faith Wagner was the winner clearing 9-9. Erin Costin was second at 7-9 ¼.
On the track, the Mountaineers had multiple athletes qualify for day two. In the 60-meter hurdles,
Morgan Bayes was the lone qualifier on the women's side running a 9.53 to sit second.
Mason Nichols qualified on the men's side running an 8.79.
In the 60-meter dash, three women qualified in
Katie Brown, Bayes, and
Madison MacMillan. Brown is first with a 7.96, followed by Bayes in third with an 8.12. MacMillan is sixth with an 8.51. Three men also qualified for finals in the 60 in
Bryce Peters,
DJ Wilson, and Nichols.
Peters ran a 7.19 in prelims to sit third. Wilson tied for fourth with a 7.28, followed by Nichols in sixth with a 7.34. In the 200, MacMillan also joined Bayes as a finals qualifier. She was fourth, running a 27.74.
Cody Milmine led the men in the 200 with the top time of 22.42. Peters was fourth, running by 23.02. Wilson was right behind Peters with a 23.31.
In the 400, just one Mountaineer ran in
Sajun White. He was fourth with a final time of 54.90. The lone distance event of the day was the 1,000-meter run. On the women's side,
Michelle Herbes led the way placing second with a time of 3:02.78.
Finishing third in the 1,000 was
Katie Jo Gebhardt with a final time of 3:03.07.
Madelyn Nichols was seventh with a time of 3:14.02, followed by
Emma Hollon placing eighth in a time of 3:19.00. On the men's side,
Hunter Nichols was the event winner in the 1,000, running a 2:31.35. He was the lone top-eight finisher for the Mounties.
Day two of the Polar Vortex Classic will begin tomorrow, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. PT in Caldwell.
