LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 14 Mountaineers Volleyball picked up another win in sweeping fashion Friday afternoon as they made quick work of Walla Walla University inside Quinn Coliseum. Eastern Oregon won by finals of 25-13, 25-11, and 25-11 to improve to 7-4 overall and now stands at 2-1 in conference play.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers had their best offensive output on Friday afternoon as the team hit a season best .333 in the win and held Walla Walla (0-4, 0-3 CCC) to a negative hitting percentage at -.074.
• The Wolves had the edge in blocks at 4-2, but Eastern was unrelenting on serves as they had a 13-1 advantage in service aces. EOU also finished with the edge in kills at 36-12.
• The Mountaineers wasted little time grabbing the lead in the opening frame and raced out to an 8-3 advantage before the Wolves burned a timeout. Walla Walla managed to get within four at 10-6 before a 7-0 run by Eastern blew open the team's lead to 11 points, 17-6.
• A pair of service aces by
Jessie White and kills from
Breanna Shaffer,
Ashton Haughton, and
Jet Taylor were key in the run. The Wolves trailed 24-10 late and made one last run scoring three straight before another Taylor kill ended the set at 25-13.Â
• A 15-4 difference in kills made the difference for EOU including a stout hitting percentage of .379. Walla Walla mustered just four kills and was in the negative range for hitting at -0.74.
• In the second frame, the Wolves grabbed the early lead at 5-3, but it was short lived. An 11-1 run by the Mountaineers blew open the set lead to 14-6 for them and they never looked back. The Wolves managed just five more points the rest of the frame.
• Three service aces by
Hailey Arritola and three kills from Taylor were key in the Mountaineers' surge as they controlled the remainder of the set. An 8-3 run late in the set pushed the EOU lead to double figures at 23-9.
• This time it was
Hannah Ledgerwood who did the damage with four service aces in the late run for Eastern. The Wolves managed just two more points before a
Cambree Scott kill and a Shaffer service ace ended the set at 25-11..
• The second set saw EOU hit just. 278, but disciplined defense helped hold the Wolves to a flat .000 hitting percentage. Also key in the set No. 2 win was serving as eight service aces helped propel the Mountaineers to a 2-0 lead.
• The third and final set featured much of the same for EOU as the team used a combination of runs to once again secure a 25-11 win. Leading 6-4, the Mountaineers ripped off six unanswered points to jump ahead 12-4.Â
• Walla Walla slightly closed the gap scoring back-to-back points, but it made no difference as Eastern pieced together another long run. An 8-1 run by the Mountaineers gave them a double-digit lead, 20-7, late in the frame.
• The Wolves had no answer for the Mountaineers' attack and tallied just four more points before falling by 14. Ending the match for the Mountaineers was a kill by
Mariah Moulton on an assist from Ledgerwood.
• Eastern hit over .300 in the third set at .320 and held Walla Walla to its lowest hitting percentage of the three sets at -.130. The Wolves had just four kills in each set, while EOU racked up 15, 9, and 12 in that order to secure the sweep.

Jet Taylor tied a match high in kills with nine and hit a staggering .615 in the win.

• Gabrielle Browning paced Walla Walla with a match best nine kills and had two blocks.
• Meherio Krainer dished out six assists in the loss, followed by Anja Cole with five.
• Isabelle Gardea led the back row defense with five digs.
