No. 14 Mountaineers Finish Homestand with Sweep of Warriors

LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 14 Eastern Oregon Volleyball picked up another win in sweeping fashion as the team took down Lewis-Clark State College in straight sets (30-28, 25-18, 27-25). With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

How it Happened
• Helping the Mountaineers in the win was a .254-.142 edge in hitting. The Warriors (6-6, 1-3 CCC) had the edge in service aces 5-1, but a 10-4 advantage in blocks helped EOU secure the win. Both teams finished with 42 kills in the match.
• Every set was a battle as the two teams traded points throughout the night. LC State raced out to a 5-2 lead in the first set but it did not make much difference as EOU forced its way back into the set to keep things close.
• The Warriors managed to stay ahead by 2-3 points until the midway point when the Mountaineers tied the frame at 15-all. Eastern then grabbed the lead 16-15 on a kill by Cambree Scott. EOU jumped ahead 19-17 to force an LC State timeout but the match was far from over.
• LC State answered with a 5-1 run to go ahead 22-20 which led to an EOU timeout. The Mountaineers then scored three straight out of the short breather to go ahead 23-22 and forced the Warriors to burn a timeout.
• The two teams traded points out of the short break and LC State was able to lead 28-27 after the fact. A pair of attack errors from LC State and a kill by Breanna Shaffer ended the match as EOU secured the 30-28 win to go ahead 1-0.
• EOU dominated the second set as the team took down LC State 25-18. The Warriors hit just -.031 and surrendered a .265 clip to the Mountaineers to fall 2-0 overall. Despite a strong start by the Warriors, the inability to continue scoring was the difference in the set.
• The Warriors managed to race out to a 9-6 lead in the frame but allowed the Mountaineers to chip away at the lead. It was a 12-8 game in favor of the Warriors before a 4-0 surge by Eastern tied the match at 12-all. A kill from Shaffer evened the set score out to keep EOU in the contest.
• The score was not close for long as the Warriors only managed to tie things up once again at 14-all before EOU created separation. The Mountaineers surged ahead to a 21-17 lead to force a Warriors timeout.
• The short break made no difference as attack errors by LC State allowed EOU to score easy points for the win. A kill by Sade Williams ended the frame to give the Mountaineers a 25-18 set win and the commanding 2-0 match lead.
• Like the first set, the third set was another close affair from beginning to end. Neither team was able to create separation and went into the middle portion of the set tied at 15-all. Late in the frame, LC State went ahead 21-18 to force an EOU timeout.
• The Mountaineers managed to close the gap at 21-20 which led to a LCSC timeout, but out of the break the Warriors went ahead 24-22 to force the Mountaineers to call their final timeout. Holding composure, EOU rallied late to secure the win.
• Out of the timeout, Preslee Jensen and Jet Taylor combined for a double block to get EOU within one before a Mariah Moulton service ace tied the third set at 24-all. LC State called timeout but mustered just one point out of the quick break.
• A kill by Jensen followed by an attack error by the Warriors ended the set at 27-25 and gave EOU the 3-0 win. Both teams had 14 kills in the set, but a .314 hitting percentage by EOU compared to just .195 by LC State was the difference.
