SPOKANE, Wash. – Eastern Oregon Track & Field continued outdoor season competition this weekend as the team had multiple athletes compete at the War XIV Invitational. The Mountaineers picked up two event wins at the meet, had 32 top-20 finishes, and had one school record fall on the track.
Setting a new program record was
Jasmine Devers in the 100-meter dash. She ran a 12.21 in the event and broke a program record that stood for 27 years. Devers now owns the top spot passing Sandy Lavarias who had the record since 1994 with a time of 12.25.
Sprints
Devers had a solid day on the track as her time in the 100 not only etched her name in the record books but also earned her a second place finish in the event. She also won the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.91.
Also having a record day on the track was
Cody Milmine who ran the fifth fastest time in outdoor history for the program in the 100. It was a close race all-around as he placed third in the event running a 10.84. His time now ranks fifth fastest in EOU history.
In the 200 on the men's side,
Bryce Peters was seventh overall as he crossed the finish line in a time of 23.33 seconds.
Hurdles
In the short sprint hurdle races, Eastern had a pair of athletes grab top-10 finishes in
Olivia Lane for the women and
Tyler Davis for the men.
Davis led the way placing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.28. On the women's side, Lane was ninth in the 100-meter hurdles running a 16.75. Davis also ran in the longer hurdle race of the 400-meter hurdles. He placed fifth in that race as well, running a 55.99.
Distance
The second event winner for the Mountaineers came in the men's 800-meter race as
Hunter Nichols was the winner. He cleared the two-lap race in a time of 1:56.83 to take down the field of 15 runners. Teammates
Jonathan Wind and
JP Friedrichsen also placed in the top-10. Wind was sixth at 2:00.83, while Friedrichsen finished ninth running 2:02.15.
In the women's 800, just two Mountaineers ran in
Katie Jo Gebhardt and
Jaimee Baxter. Gebhardt led the duo with a runner-up finish in 2:23.30. Baxter placed two spots back in fourth running a 2:28.17. In the 1,500-meter run,
Bennett Welch was the top finisher in 12th with a time of 4:19.83.
Throws
Makayla Akers led the way for the throws group placing third in the javelin. She hit an NAIA "A" qualifying mark in the event with a throw of 141-9. Her mark currently ranks No. 7 in the NAIA and is an automatic qualifying mark for the Outdoor National Championships.
Also placing in the top-10 of the women's javelin throw were
Allie Best and
Lainy Jacobsen, respectively. Best was sixth with a throw of 124-8, while Jacobsen was behind her seventh at 117-4. Katie Sandberg placed just outside the top-10 at 11th with a mark of 106-6.
In the men's javelin throw,
Sam Roddewig picked up a seventh place finish in the event. He hit 159-8 on his second throw of the day to grab the top-10 finish.
Maggie Ledbetter also had a solid day for the Mountaineers as she picked up a pair of top-five finishes at the meet. She was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 42-8 to place in the top-two. Ledbtter also earned a fourth place finish in the discus. She hit a mark of 133-5 on her fourth attempt to place in the top-five.
Danielle Church also placed in the top-10 of the shot put finishing ninth overall with a heave of 38-7 ¾.
Kenna Woodward was 10th in the discus clearing a mark of 125-2 in the prelims on her third throw.
Horizontal & Vertical Jumps
In the long jump, the Mountaineers had two male athletes earn top-10 finishes led by
Allexander Kosel who was second overall in the event. On his fifth jump he leaped 21-10 ¼ to grab the runner-up finish.
Jonah Coats was ninth in long jump clearing 19-10 ¼ in his second attempt.
Three Mountaineers placed in the top-10 in the high jump, with two coming on the women's side.
Taylor McCarrell led the women placing seventh with a height of 4-11.
Olivia Lane was eighth with a height clearance of 4-9.
Judson Mansfield was the lone placewinner in the men's high jump with a height of 5-9 ¼ to place sixth.
Pole Vault
On the men's side, EOU had two athletes place in the top-10 of the pole vault.
Sam Roddewig led the way finishing fourth with a clearance of 14-8 ¾.
Lucas Hidalgo was sixth in the event clearing 14-2 ¾.
On the women's side,
Abby Winstead was seventh overall in the event with a height clearance of 10-6 ¼. Teammate Alex Partch missed the top-10 by one spot finishing 11th with a height of 7-7.
Relays
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Tyler Davis,
Allexander Kosel,
Bryce Peters, and
Cody Milmine placed second overall. The group ran a collective time of 42.38 seconds to earn the runner-up finish.
Two groups ran in the men's 4x400-meter relay race and both placed in the top-10. Davis,
Jonathan Wind,
Hunter Nichols, and Milmine placed second as a group running a 3:22.77. The second grouping of
JP Friedrichsen,
Judson Mansfield,
Sam Roddewig, and
Bennett Welch placed sixth in a time of 3:28.29.
The Mountaineer women competed in just the 4x400 and earned a third place finish overall. The quartet of
Jaimee Baxter,
Olivia Lane,
Katie Jo Gebhardt, and
Jasmine Devers posted a time of 4:04.84 in the relay race.
