Box Score 2 CALDWELL, Idaho – Eastern Oregon Baseball opened its final road series Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses to the College of Idaho, falling 14-9 in game one and 8-0 in game two.
Game 1
After a scoreless first two innings, the College of Idaho broke through in the bottom of the third. Jack Ryan sparked the rally with a leadoff walk and used his speed to reach third on a steal and a passed ball. Another walk put two runners on before the Yotes capitalized, using a single and another passed ball to plate a pair and take a 2-0 lead.
Eastern answered immediately in the fourth with an offensive surge of its own.
Alex Olague,
Mario Landeros,
Tommy Whiles, and
Jaxon Logsdon strung together four straight singles to even the score, setting the stage for
Greyson McDaniels, who launched a three-run homer to put the Mountaineers in front 5-2. The Yotes chipped away in the bottom half, adding a run on an RBI single to cut into the deficit.
Jace Nagler extended Eastern's lead in the fifth with a solo home run, but the momentum quickly swung back in a big way. College of Idaho erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of walks, hit-by-pitches, and a Mountie error while collecting timely hits to surge ahead 13-6.
Both teams settled in over the next couple of innings before Eastern mounted another push in the eighth. Olague delivered again with a two-run homer, and a later walk came around to score on a wild pitch to trim the gap to 13-9. The Yotes responded with an insurance run in the bottom half, maintaining control heading into the ninth.
Eastern made one final push, loading the bases with two singles and a walk, but College of Idaho held firm, recording two fly outs and a groundout to seal the 14-9 victory.
Jackson Cummins (4-3) earned the win for the Yotes, tossing five innings with four strikeouts, while
Easton Corey (2-7) took the loss for Eastern after four innings of work.
Game 2
College of Idaho wasted no time taking control, jumping out to an early lead in the opening inning. James Hull set the tone with a leadoff double and later came around to score on a single up the middle. The Yotes kept the pressure on with two more base hits to load the bases, and a sacrifice fly added another run to make it 2-0. They extended the advantage in the second when Cody Guy launched a two-run home run, putting Eastern Oregon in an early hole.
The Yotes continued to build throughout the game, adding two more runs in the third on an RBI single and tacking on another pair in the seventh with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to stretch the lead to 8-0.
Eastern Oregon was unable to generate momentum offensively in the second game, managing just six hits and two walks while striking out eight times. The Mountaineers struggled to string together opportunities, never advancing a runner past second base as College of Idaho's pitching staff kept them in check.
Jace Schow (1-7) took the loss for Eastern, while Heath Sasser-Gunson (3-3) delivered a strong performance on the mound, tossing eight innings to earn the win and secure the series victory.
