CALDWELL, Idaho – Eastern Oregon baseball split its season-ending doubleheader against the College of Idaho on Saturday at Wolfe Field. The Mountaineers won the first game 7-1 before falling 9-2 in the second game.
Game 1: Eastern Oregon 7, College of Idaho 1
Eastern Oregon took control early in the third inning, with Trevor Baker's single bringing home Taddy for a 1-0 lead. The Mountaineers added another run in the seventh, as Parker Cumberland hit a three-run homer to extend their advantage to 4-0. Afton Milton's single and Mason Van Arsdall's home run in the eighth sealed the win for EOU. College of Idaho's only run came in the seventh inning on a fielder's choice that scored Cannon Morgan.
Danny Burns earned the win for Eastern Oregon, pitching a solid 7.0 innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out four. Jake Herrera and Logan Valtierra each pitched in relief to secure the victory.
Game 2: College of Idaho 9, Eastern Oregon 2
In the second game, College of Idaho responded with a strong offensive showing, winning 9-2. The Mountaineers struck first, with Carson Gerding drawing a walk with the bases loaded to score Mario Landeros. College of Idaho then took a 4-1 lead by the end of the fifth. Trevor Watkins brought in two runs with a single to center field, and Cannon Morgan homered in the eighth inning, helping to cap off a three-run inning. Despite a strong start to the game, EOU's late solo home run from Van Arsdall capped off the scoring for the Mounties in the eighth inning.
Tyler Rebsom took the loss for EOU, giving up four runs on five hits over 2.0 innings. Sam McCauley and Dalton Jones also saw action on the mound in the defeat.
With Sunday's result, Eastern Oregon wraps up the season 13-36 overall and 9-28 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
