EOU Swept by Oregon Tech in Conference Opening Series

WALLA WALLA, Wash.- To round out the weekend, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (1-19) hosted The Oregon Tech Owls (17-9), where they wrapped up the first series of Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Owls grabbed game one 10-3. Game two was a defensive battle until three home runs determined the winner. The Owls ended up sweeping the weekend in a comeback win 5-3. Eastern Oregon looks to bounce back as they will be on the road to face fellow CCC opponent, Bushnell, in Eugene on March 24 at 2 and 5 p.m.

GAME 1
Game one went to the Owls 10-3. Oregon Tech slowly added to their lead each inning despite an EOU defensive effort. A Joey Freitas RBI brought in Rogelio Gonzales and Austin Gerding to bring the Mounties within three. However, a big eighth inning for the Owls allowed them to grab four more runs and hold the Mounties at three. Eastern struggled to string hits together as they grabbed eight hits but just couldn't get a rhythm to bring in runners. Joey Freitas went 3-4 with 3 RBIs and a double. Danny Burns tossed in five strikeouts on the bump.

GAME 2
Game two was a defensive battle with a couple of home runs thrown in the mix. Mounties went on top first and held the lead, and a Rogelio Gonzales home run lifted the Mounties to a 3-1 lead. The Owls then rallied around back-to-back home runs themselves to take the lead and eventually take the game 5-3. Slayder Watterson threw five strikeouts and only allowed six hits and one run for the Mounties. EOU played selflessly doing everything they could to move runners as Justin Duso and Austin Gerding each tossed in sacrifices.
