Davis' Day One Sweep Highlights CCC Multi-Event Championships for Mounties

LA GRANDE, Ore. – It was a stellar day at Banner Bank Track for TJ Davis as he swept day one of the decathlon at the 2022 CCC Multi-Event Championships, presented by U.S. Bank. He won all five events and heads into day two with 3,8-2 points.

Eastern Oregon not only has the overall leader in the decathlon in Davis, but true freshman Judson Mansfield is currently third entering Friday's events with 3,220 points. On the women's side, Samantha Conley totaled 2,451 points and sits ninth, while Karli Bedard is 14th with 2,329 points scored.

In the decathlon, Davis was superb as he won all five events on Thursday to grab the day one sweep. He totaled 3,802 points through the five wins and currently leads second by 365 points. On the track, Davis got the day started clocking a 11.18 in the 100-meter dash. He then transitioned over to the long jump where he posted a mark of 22-4 ¼ on his final attempt for the win.

In the shot put, Davis edged second place by 4 ¼ inches to move to 3-0 on the day. He chucked the rock 38-11 ¾ on his first throw, which was enough to hold off the field. In the final field event, high jump, Davis cleared the bar at a height of 6-5 and edged out second by just under three inches. He ended with a dominant performance in the 400-meter dash. He ran a 49.33 and was 2.73 seconds ahead of second.

For Mansfield, he placed in the top-five in four of the events on day one. His best finish was in the high jump. He cleared 6-0 ½ to tie for fourth. He ran 11.66 in the 100 to finish. He then leaped 20-1 in the long jump, placing sixth, which was his lowest finish of the day. He was fifth once again in shot put with a throw of 35-9 ½. He finished the day, clocking a 52.87in the 400 to earn another fifth place finish.

In the heptathlon, Conley's best finish was in the shot put. She heaved the rock 33-2 and earned a fourth place finish. She was 10th in both the high jump (4-9 ½) and the 200-meter dash (27.89). Her lowest finish was in the 100-meter hurdles, where she placed 12th, running a 16.14.

Bedard placed 10th in the first three events of the day in the 100 hurdles, high jump, and shot put. She ran a 15.84 in the hurdles before clearing 4-9 ½ in the high jump. Her mark tied her for 10th with Conley. She hit a mark of 29-2 ¾ in shot put and finished the day placing 15th in the 200 in a time of 28.92.

Day two of the CCC Multi-Event Championships gets under Friday morning, April 22, at 10 a.m. for the decathlon and 10:15 a.m. for the heptathlon. Decathlon events on deck are the 100-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and the 1,500-meter run. In the heptathlon, three events remain in the long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run.

The Eastern Oregon Open will also get underway tomorrow at Banner Bank Track with field events beginning at 2 p.m. Track events will begin at 3 p.m. and will be on a running schedule.
