Mountie Baseball Treks to West Side of State for Another Road Series

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball continues its 2022 road tour this weekend with an in-state trip to the west side for a four-game non-conference tilt. This marks the seventh straight week to start the season EOU will play on the road.

First Pitch
• The Mountaineers (6-15) are set to play their third CCC opponent in what will be denoted as a non-conference showdown.
• Eastern will play its fourth in-state opponent this season and it will be their first against an NAIA opponent.
• With last weekend's series moved to Idaho, EOU has now played on the road or in a neutral site series for seven consecutive weeks.
• Following the weekend series at Corban, Eastern begins CCC play with a four-game tilt at Oregon Tech.

• Eastern has played 21 straight games on the road and still have another eight left away from home.

Last Time Out

• EOU played I-84 rival College of Idaho last weekend, taking the opener, but fell in the next three.
• The Mounties split day one, taking the first game 8-5 before falling 7-4 in game two.
• The Yotes wept day two, winning both games by a slim margin of three runs, 9-6 and 6-3, respectively.

Series History vs. Corban
• Last season, the Mounties were just 1-7 against the Warriors in a pair of four-game series.
• Eastern won its first match-up against Corban, 3-2, before dropping the next seven games.

Longest Road Trip Ever…
• The Mountaineers have played 21 straight games away from home and still have eight more left on the road.

It's Not Stealing If You Don't Get Caught
• EOU has done well this season when it comes to stolen bases, going 22-31 so far.

McKlane Elgin and Garret Kollar both have three stolen bases to tie for second.

Doing Work on the Mound
• The Mountaineers have racked up six more strikeouts in nine games this year.
• Eastern racked up a season best 12 strikeouts in game one of their series at Pacific.
Jaydon Yancey and Michael Bennett lead the pitching staff with 16 strikeouts, respectively.
• Tied for third in strikeouts is Zach Brown and Davis Brown with 11 each.

• The Mountaineers are tied for third  in the CCC in fielding percentage at .953.
Matt Garcia is second in the league in triples hit with four.
McKlane Elgin is tied for third in triples hit with three on the year.
Austin Gerding is tied for seventh in stolen bases with seven in 12 games.

Scouting the Warriors
• Corban enters the weekend with a 9-8-1 overall record. They are undefeated at home early on this season with a 3-0 record.
• As a team, the Warriors are batting a collective .239. They have hit five home runs and scored 75 runs. The team has 67 RBI on the year and have hit 29 doubles.
• On the hill, Corban boasts a 2.96 ERA through 143.0 innings pitched. They have thrown 128 strikeouts already and are holding opposing batters to a .234 average.
• Defensively, the Warriors have a .947 fielding percentage. They have committed 34 errors on the year and turned 15 double plays.
• Brad Pellkofer is the leading hitter at .302. He has scored a team best 12runsand tallied seven RBI. He is the only batter hitting over .300 entering the weekend.
• Kyle Clay is tied for second in batting at a .277. He has the most hits with 18 and has scored 10 runs. He also leads the team in home runs with two.
• Also batting .277 is Estenio Sede. He has knocked 13 hits to go along with six RBI. 
• Cale Thompson has the most RBI with 10 on the year. He is hitting .259 on the year and has scored 11 runs. 
• ZackSimon leads the pitching staff with 36 strikeouts in 30.0 innings pitched. He is 2-2 in five starts, has pitched one complete game, and owns a 1.20 ERA.
• Second in strikeouts is Mason Shaw with 19 in 26.1 innings. He has the most wins with a 3-1 record and has a 4.78 ERA.
• Reliever Giovanni Cervantes has the most saves this year with two so far. He sports a 1.42 ERA and has fanned three batters.

Up Next
• In what is no shock to anyone, the Mountaineers will be on the road next weekend and this time around it will be a CCC opening series. EOU takes on Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, March 19-20. First pitch on both days will be at 11 a.m.
