• A big help in the EOU win was in the serving category. The Mountaineers had six service aces in the win and surrendered just one the entire match. It was a close battle in digs and assists, but EOU held the edge at 84-82 and 39-30.
• Early on, the Saints were clicking as they raced out to an 8-5 lead and forced an EOU timeout. The quick breather proved to be the difference maker as the Mountaineers outscored Carroll 20-6 the rest of the way to go ahead 1-0.
• The Saints managed to push their lead to 10-5 before EOU responded with a 5-0 surge to tie the contest at 10-all. The quick run forced a Carroll timeout, but it did not stop the Mountaineers' momentum as they limited the Saints to just three more points the rest of the set.
• Out of the timeout, Carroll went ahead 11-10 but a 11-0 run by the Mountaineers overpowered the Saints. A kill from
Cambree Scott got the run started while she and
Ashton Haughton both had two in the run to put EOU ahead for good as they took the opener 25-14.
• Despite the slow start, EOU still managed to tally 14 kills in the first set for a .137 hitting percentage. The Mounties held the Saints to just seven kills and .019 hitting percentage. The momentum from the later half of the opening set paced EOU the rest of the match.
• The second set was close in the early going as EOU held a 7-5 edge over Carroll. The Saints managed to stay in striking distance until a 6-2 run by the Mountaineers opened up their lead to 13-7.
• Eastern managed to lead by as much as seven, 17-10, but the Saints never allowed them to create separation like they did in the first set. Carroll closed the gap to three late in the frame, 22-19, but two attack errors and a block gave EOU the 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead.
• The Saints held the edge in kills in the second set, 13-11, but also had 13 attack errors for a .000 hitting percentage. For the Mountaineers, just four attack errors was the difference to give them a 2-0 lead going into what was the final set of the match.
• Similar to the previous set, the Mountaineers and Saints traded points early on and were locked at 7-7 tie in the third. EOU then scored four unanswered points to push its lead to 11-7 and force a Carroll timeout.
• Out of the timeout, the Saints battled back to tie the frame at 13-all, but never managed to grab the lead. EOU pushed its lead back to four at 17-13 thanks to a service ace by
Breanna Shaffer and three Carroll attack errors.
• Late in the third, Eastern held a 24-18 edge, but the Saints made one final push to avoid the sweep. Carroll scored back-to-back points to get within four points and make it 24-20 before a Shaffer kill closed the set at 25-20.
• Making a difference once again for EOU was its defense. The Mountaineers limited the Saints to .071 in the third set and surrendered just 10 kills. On the flip side, EOU's best outing was in the third with 15 kills and a .154 hitting percentage.
