OLYMPIA, Wash. - 12th-ranked Mountaineers Volleyball secured the No. 2 seed to the 2021 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday night with a 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-20, 25-20) of Evergreen State College. With the win, Eastern Oregon closes out the regular season with a 27-6 overall record and a 19-3 mark in CCC play.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers posted a .278 attack clip in the win and held the Geoducks (10-13, 10-12 CCC) to .193 in the loss.
• Eastern racked up nine service aces in the win, while Evergreen State had just four, but the battle up front in blocks went in favor to the Geoducks at 5-2.
• Not one set was easy by any means as the Mountaineers barely walked away with the win by no more than five points in any of the three sets.
• The first set looked like it would go in the Geoducks favor as they grabbed a 5-1 lead to start and eventually grew their lead to 13-4.Â
• Eastern then chipped away at the Evergreen State lead with a 9-3 run that got the team within three points, 16-13, midway through the frame.Â
• The Geoducks managed to cling to a 1-3 point lead until EOU tied the set up at 23-all. Eastern then grabbed a 24-23 lead before Evergreen State scored just one more time. It took extra points but EOU secured the comeback win, 26-24, to go up by one set.
• The start of the second set belonged solely to EOU as the team went up 7-0 to start. The Mountaineers seemed to be in control pushing their lead to 14-6 before the Geoducks got back in it.
• Evergreen State got within five at the midway point of the set, 15-10, but never got any closer than three points until late in the frame. They made it a 23-20 contest before falling 25-20 and going down two sets.
• In the final frame, Evergreen State managed to take the lead early on but never led by more than three, 7-4. EOU managed to lead by one at 9-8 and 11-10 before opening up the score.
• Late in the third, the Mountaineers extended their lead to 20-15 before the Geoducks made one final push at a potential comeback.
• Eastern led 23-17 but surrendered three straight points to the Geoducks to make it 23-20. Regardless, the Mounties held composure and scored back-to-back points to pick up the sweep.

• Sierra Wolff led all players with 32 assists to go along with two solo blocks and eight digs.
• Sage Burgmeier led the back row 14 digs in the loss.
