No.19 Women's Soccer Fall In Overtime In CCC Opener

GREAT FALLS, Mont. The No.19 Eastern Oregon women's soccer team opened conference play on the road on Friday evening, falling to Providence 2-1 in overtime.

The Mountaineers (4-1-0, 0-1-0 CCC) had a dominant first half as they controlled the attack, leading in shots 7-4 with a 4-2 advantage in corners.

The first goal of the game came at the 43rd minute mark when sophomore Morgan Farrington crossed the ball inside the 18-yard box where sophomore Cailin Koupal connected a quick pass with freshman Kaitlyn McLeod for her first collegiate goal. The goal put the Mountaineers in front 1-0 just before half time.

After the break, Providence (3-2, 1-0 CCC) came out strong and began creating their own chances on the attack. The Argos capitalized on an opportunity at the 67th minute mark when redshirt senior Grace Isben got on the end of a rebound to tie the game up at one apiece with 23 minutes left to play.

Although Providence outshot the Mountaineers 11-4 in the second half, neither side could find the back of the net before regulation ended, forcing the game into overtime.

The Argos jumped on EOU quickly in the overtime period, scoring the golden goal in the second minute of overtime. Providence forward Malena Lennon headed the ball into the net from a Jenni Qualm clearance to send UP off with the victory.

The Mountaineers look to bounce back on Sunday against Carroll College at 4 PM MT in Helena, Montana.
