EOU Defeats Great Falls and MSU-Northern

SPOKANE, Wash. – During the second day of the Sport Travel Northwest Challenge, No. 23 Eastern Oregon University volleyball team defeated Great Falls, 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16), in its first game. EOU followed the victory with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-21) sweep of MSU-Northern.

EOU played consistent and controlled the game in the 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16) victory over the Argos. Because of a computer issue we do not have stats at this time.
 
MSU-Northern

The Mountaineers started out the first set against MSU-Northern slow. The Lights took an early six point lead over EOU, 12-6, after an attack error by Kasaundra Tuma. MSU-Northern continued to build its lead and after an attack error by Amanda Miller, the Lights led 17-9.

Trailing by seven, 20-13, the Mountaineers started to make a comeback as EOU scored the next seven points to tie the set at 20-20. The set did not stay tied long as the Lights took a one point lead after a Jessalyn Smith service error. Eastern Oregon continued to battle and scored the last five points of the sets to take set one, 25-21.

Set two, the Mountaineers and Lights went back and forth and after a service ace by Taylor Woolman, the Lights took a three point lead, 7-4. The game remained close as MSU-Northern continued to hold a three point lead until the Mountaineers tied the game at 18-18. Once EOU tied the set, both teams shared the lead a handful of times. After an attack error by the Lights' Woolman, the Mountaineers took a 21-20 lead. EOU did not give up the lead the rest of the set and took a 2-0 lead after taking set two, 25-23.

The third set saw neither team want to take control as there were eight ties in the third set. With the score tied at 8-8, the Lights looked like they would take control of the game. After a kill by Jessica Wilcox the Lights held a four point lead, 14-10. However, EOU scored five of the next six points to tie the game at 15-15.
