LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team knocked off Oregon Tech in four games Friday night.
The Mountaineers (10-6) (6-4) completed a regular season sweep over Oregon Tech with the victory.
Jessica Lea and
Taylor Stewart each finished with 16 kills to lead EOU. Lea added a match-high 23 assists. The sophomore finished the night with a .400 hitting percentage.
Irene Walters had 11 kills for Eastern.
Kaitlyn Duncan was honored before the match after being named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Libero of the Week. Friday, Duncan had a match-high 22 digs.
Leigh Anne MacCarthy finished with 10 digs.
After Eastern won a five-set thriller in Klamath Falls on Sept. 11, the teams went back-and-forth in the opening set as Game 1 featured 11 ties and four lead changes. The Mountaineers led 24-22, before OIT made a 3-0 run to take a 26-25 lead. EOU would finish on a 3-0 run to win the set 28-26.
Eastern Oregon won the second set 25-15, but Oregon Tech had the lead throughout the third game. The Owls led 18-12, but watched EOU make a 9-4 run to trail by only one, 22-21. Tech closed the set on a 3-1 run to win, 25-22.
The Mountaineers controlled Game 4, leading for almost the entire set. Eastern led 18-13 but the Lady Owls made a 5-0 run to even the score. EOU would go on to win the game, 25-21.
Kristen Walters led OIT (10-12) (2-8) with 12 kills, while Sarah Svedin and Kayleigh Whelchel finished with 22 and 18 assists. Whelchel added 12 digs and Hannah Brewster had 11 digs.
Tech travels to The College of Idaho Saturday for a 7 p.m. Mountain Time matchup. Eastern hosts No. 12 Southern Oregon Saturday at 7 p.m. The Raiders (12-3) (9-1) lost their first conference match Friday at No. 17 The College of Idaho (12-4) (9-1) in three sets. EOU fell at Southern Oregon on Sept. 10, in four games. There will be live video of the match on EOUSports.com along with live stats.
It's beach night in Quinn Coliseum and fans are encouraged to dress in their beach attire or wear white to the match between the nationally-ranked Raiders and Eastern Oregon.
