Mountaineers Drop Pair of One-Run Games at College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho – Eastern Oregon wrapped up its road series against College of Idaho on Sunday afternoon, dropping both contests in a pair of tightly contested one-run games. The Mountaineers fell 5–4 in Game 3 and 2–1 in Game 4.

Game 3
Eastern Oregon struck first in the opening inning with a two-out rally. Alex Olague drew a walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. After a dropped foul ball extended the inning, Mario Landeros capitalized with an RBI single up the middle to score Olague. Tommy Whiles followed with a two-run home run, giving the Mountaineers an early 3–0 lead.

College of Idaho answered immediately in the bottom half. A solo home run from Cody Guy, followed by a two-out walk and single, trimmed the deficit to 3–2. The Yotes evened the score in the second inning, using two walks and an RBI opportunity. A rundown play allowed the go-ahead run to score before the inning ended, putting College of Idaho ahead 4–3.

Eastern responded in the fourth. Tucker Zander led off with a walk, advanced to third on a wild pitch and a groundout, and scored on an RBI from Andrew Demianew to tie the game at 4–4. The Yotes threatened in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back singles, but reliever Will Slater entered and shut the door to keep the game even.

The score remained tied into the ninth, with both teams limited offensively. In the bottom of the inning, College of Idaho loaded the bases with one out. Eastern forced a ground ball and recorded an out at home, but with two outs, Corbin Sterner delivered a walk-off single to left-center, lifting the Yotes to a 5–4 win.

Joey Weissenfels (1–2) took the loss for Eastern Oregon, while Zaylor Bruegeman (2–2) earned the win.

Game 4
The series finale featured a pitchers' duel, with both starters delivering six strong innings and keeping offenses in check. College of Idaho broke through in the fourth inning, stringing together a walk and four singles to plate two runs.

Eastern Oregon cut into the deficit in the sixth, using back-to-back singles to make it 2–1. However, a double play halted the momentum. From there, both teams struggled to generate offense. The Mountaineers managed just three baserunners the rest of the way, while the Yotes had only one, as the game remained scoreless over the final innings.
Eastern ultimately fell 2–1 to close out the series.

Jayden Butler (1–6) was tagged with the loss after six innings of work, recording nine flyouts, five groundouts, and three strikeouts. Jack Ryan (3–3) earned the win for the Yotes with six innings pitched, while Caden Casagrande secured the save with a scoreless seventh.
