LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Women's Wrestling will travel to Wichita, Kansas, this week for the 4th NAIA Women's Wrestling National Championship. The NAIA national office released the preliminary brackets last Friday, with five Mountaineers slated to compete for national titles.
Eastern Oregon automatically qualified three wrestlers two weekends ago at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships and added two more competitors through at-large selections. Two alternates were also announced Friday. Receiving votes (22) in the final NAIA Top 20 Team Poll, EOU enters the national tournament with five individually ranked wrestlers and two additional qualifiers who secured their spots through the CCC Championships.
The championship will feature four sessions across two days, beginning Friday, March 13, at Heartland Credit Union Arena. Competition begins at 10 a.m. CT. All 10 weight classes will include a total of 210 wrestlers competing in a double-elimination format, with the top eight finishers in each class earning NAIA All-American honors.
Each conference tournament awards automatic bids per weight class based on the final regular-season rating. Conferences receive automatic berths based on the number of wrestlers ranked in each weight class, with a minimum of one automatic bid per class awarded to the conference champion—even if the conference did not have a wrestler ranked in the final regular-season rating. If a conference does not have an individual ranked in the final top 17, an allocation is granted to ensure each conference is represented in every weight class at the National Championships.
Makenna Duran,
Veil Foreman, and
Kiona Michel each earned automatic bids after finishing third, second, and third, respectively, at the CCC Championships.
Gloria Diaz and
Lexie Garza were selected for at-large bids following their second and fourth place finishes.
Competing at 131 pounds, Duran enters the national tournament with a 7–6 record. According to the preliminary bracket, she will receive a first-round bye and is set to face No. 5 seed Larissa Kaz of Hastings, who also received a bye.
Foreman, competing at 124 pounds, enters the tournament with a 25–10 record. She will also receive a first-round bye and will face the winner of the matchup between No. 6 seed Hayden Newberg of Indiana Tech and Holland Wieber of Southern Oregon.
At 207 pounds, Michel enters with a 17–11 record and will receive a first-round bye before facing the winner of No. 3 seed Selena Mares of Grand View and Hayeni Costa of Lindsey Wilson.
Diaz will compete at 117 pounds with a 21–11 record. After receiving a first-round bye, she will face the winner of No. 2 seed Salyna Shotwell of Life Pacific and Kikayla Jardine of Dickinson State.
Also competing at 131 pounds, Garza enters with a 12–6 record and will face the winner of the matchup between No. 3 seed Jumoke Adkoye of Dickinson State and Bryce White of Oklahoma City following a first-round bye.
Telsarina Walters (19–8) is listed as the alternate at 110 pounds, while
Isabella Coronado (27–10) will serve as the alternate at 117 pounds.
All sessions will be streamed live on FloWrestling, the NAIA Network and the Urban Edge Network. Live results and updated brackets will be available through TrackWrestling.
