LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's wrestling team opened its home weekend in dominant fashion, sweeping Big Bend Community College 46-0 in a dual decided entirely by pins, technical falls, and forfeits.
Prior to the dual, the Mounties honored their lone senior,
Sitlaly Macias, who enters the weekend ranked No. 19 nationally at 138 pounds. Macias has tallied 18 career victories at EOU, highlighted by an eighth-place finish at the Cascade Conference Tournament and sixth-place finishes at both the Boxer Open and Mike Clock Open, with more accomplishments still to come this season.
The afternoon began with an exhibition bout between Elizabeth Hodges and Tenacious Villase, where Hodges controlled the action before the match ended due to an injury default.
Official competition opened with a double forfeit at 103 pounds, followed by
Telsarina Walter earning a forfeit win at 110 to give EOU its first points of the dual.
At 117 pounds,
Gloria Diaz jumped out to a quick six-point lead in the opening period before pinning Aris Fry.
Brooklyn Jones continued the momentum at 124 pounds, securing an 11-0 technical fall over
Anna Rodriguez in the first period.
Lexie Garza added another pin at 131, defeating Jayde Coleman in just 1:19.
