CORVALLIS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University's
Tess Sando and
Kiauna Mack have been named Cascade Collegiate Conference Players of the Week for their standout performances last week.
Women's Soccer – Defensive Player of the Week
Sando, a senior defender from Minden, Nev., made an immediate impact in EOU's home opener against Dordt University (Iowa) on Thursday.
In the Mounties' season debut, she anchored the back line in a commanding 4-0 shutout. Sando logged 76 minutes at center back, helping to limit Dordt to just three total shots—only one of which was on goal.
She also contributed offensively, tallying two shots on goal and scoring once to cap an all-around impressive performance.
Volleyball – Defender of the Week
Mack, a senior middle from Puyallup, Wash., was a force at the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge in Butte, Mont., where Eastern went 4-0, including wins over two nationally ranked teams.
Across 13 sets, Mack racked up 28 blocks (10 solo, 18 assisted), averaging an elite 2.15 blocks per set. Her most notable performance came against No. 24 William Carey, where she posted 11 of EOU's 12 team blocks, holding the Lady Crusaders to a -.046 hitting percentage.
She also led the Mounties offensively, recording 43 kills (3.31 per set), both team highs.
Her efforts not only helped the Mounties take all but one set last week, but also put her at the top of both the CCC and NAIA rankings in blocks per set. She currently ranks second in the conference for total blocks.
