EOU Earns 3-1 Win to Close Non-Conference Play

SALEM, Ore. — Eastern Oregon University (RV) Women's Soccer closed out their preseason non-conference schedule in winning fashion Sunday morning, earning a 3-1 victory over Stanton University at the neutral-site Corban University Athletic Complex.

Jocelyn Baker opened the scoring in the 19th minute, giving the Mountaineers an early 1-0 advantage. EOU continued to apply pressure, and Gracie Rainsberry doubled the lead in the 30th minute to send the Mountaineers into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Stanton responded early in the second half, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 62nd minute. EOU answered just over six minutes later, as Samantha Gjersvold added an insurance goal in the 69th minute to restore the Mountaineers' two-goal advantage.

The Mountaineers continued to generate chances down the stretch, putting eight shots on target in the second half and keeping Stanton's defense under pressure until the final whistle.

EOU controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting Stanton 21-5 and putting 15 shots on target. The Mountaineers also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks while consistently dictating the pace of play.

Rainsberry led the Mountaineers with four shots and three shots on goal, while also scoring EOU's second goal of the match. Gjersvold added a goal and finished with two shots on goal, while Cassidy Harding recorded three shots. Samantha Jones and Peyton Jacaway each added two shots. In goal, Elysa Morse played all 90 minutes and made two saves to help secure the Mountaineers' final non-conference victory of the preseason.

With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 4-1-1 and turns their attention to Cascade Conference play. The Mountaineers will open conference action at home, hosting Walla Walla University on Friday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. PT at Community Stadium.
