Eastern Oregon Claims Second Straight CCC Title with 14-0 Victory Over British Columbia

Box Score

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon softball team left no doubt on Championship Sunday, defeating the University of British Columbia 14-0 in five innings to capture its second consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament title at Stilwell Stadium.

With the win, the Mountaineers (32-9) completed a 4-0 run through one of the deepest softball conferences in the NAIA, collecting wins over Carroll College (3-0), No. 4 Southern Oregon (5-4), No. 2 Oregon Tech (5-0), and capping it with a mercy-rule victory over British Columbia in the title game.

Eastern Oregon scored in three of the first four innings, exploding for nine runs in the third to break the game wide open. Hope Burke set the tone with a solo home run in the second, and the Mounties never looked back. She finished the day 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

The third-inning onslaught featured RBI singles from Hannah Tyree and Emily Barry, a two-run double by Madison Olson, and run-scoring hits from Burke, Haley Tyree, and Raygun Klippert. A wild pitch and throwing error extended the rally as EOU pushed the lead to 10-0 before the inning ended.

Klippert drove in two more with a single in the fourth, and Katelynn Evans capped the scoring with a hit to right that plated two additional runs, helped by a British Columbia error.

In total, the Mounties tallied 14 hits and drew five walks. Eight different players recorded a hit, all driving in at least one run. Olson, Burke, and Klippert each finished with two RBIs, while Evans, Barry, and Haley Tyree added one apiece.

In the circle, Kylie Parsons continued her dominant season, improving to 17-0 with a five-inning shutout. She scattered six hits and struck out five, keeping the Thunderbirds (26-18) off the scoreboard with just 67 pitches.

Shae Sever was credited with the loss for the Thunderbirds, allowing four runs and five hits in 2.1 innings pitched. Jessica Heutink led British Columbia with two hits in the championship.

The Mountaineers will now await their official NAIA Opening Round assignment, with host sites and brackets to be announced Wednesday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. PT.
