KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University baseball dropped both games of its Saturday doubleheader, falling 14-2 in the opener and 9-2 in the finale against the Oregon Tech Owls at Steen Sports Park.
Game One: Oregon Tech 14, Eastern Oregon 2
After a scoreless first inning, Oregon Tech broke things open in the second with four runs. A double by Keanu Mizuta plated one, and shortly after, Korrey Siracusa doubled down the left side to bring in two more and make it 3-0. A sacrifice fly by Patrick Barry capped the early surge.
The Owls added three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run triple from Logan Macy, and then exploded for seven runs in the sixth. Tyler Horner homered to right center to help push the margin to 9-0 before Oregon Tech tallied five more runs in the inning.
EOU got on the board in the top of the seventh with a clutch double to left center by Benat Van Hoose, scoring Tyler Balkenbush and Rogelio Gonzales. Starter Danny Burns (L, 3-5) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up three earned runs while striking out two. Isaac Hill (W, 4-3) earned the victory for the Owls by tossing 6.0 shutout innings.
Game One: Oregon Tech 9, Eastern Oregon 2
The second contest hinged on a seven-run third inning from Oregon Tech. Horner opened the scoring with a solo shot to right, and Matthew Ortiz singled home another run soon after. The Owls went on to collect a pair of RBI from Siracusa and an RBI double by Horner, blowing the game wide open at 7-0.
Eastern Oregon starter Reed Stamps went 2.0 scoreless frames before the Owls' offense came alive. Despite the deficit, the Mountaineers threatened several times, boosted by three-hit games from both Trevor Baker (3-for-5) and Mario Landeros (3-for-4, RBI). EOU broke through in the ninth as Parker Cumberland and Baker scored on consecutive RBI singles from Landeros and Mason Van Arsdall, making the final 9-2.
Reliever Zakaia Michaels (L, 3-1) took the loss, while Carson Glavich (W, 4-1) turned in 6.0 shutout innings to pace the Owls.
Eastern Oregon will next travel to Walla Walla to face Whitman College on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
